Reminds me of schenn - JvR situation. Always talked about, finally happens.

I see couturier kind of like a couture type player.

Fill those holes through other means. A C lineup of

Kadri
Couts/Grabo
Grabo/Couts
McClement

is solid and can carry us for years

What are the chances that clarkson hits free agency in the summer AND signs with us?

If he makes it to free agency, I don't see how we wouldn't be one of his top choices... Players like playing closer to home.

MacArthur makes 3.25M... If we let Mac walk, and pony up another 1M to 1.5M to make him an offer of 4.25-4.75M a year, we could be in the running.

Cause that is just what we need, another 3rd liner and way overpriced to boot.

Clarkson is a very solid hockey player. Very solid defensively, he's physical, and the last two seasons he's been showing some decent offence.

I'd prefer to have him on the team @ 4M compared to Grabo on the team at 5.5M, or Mac on the team @ 3M, etc.

4.5M is getting a little rich though. I don't think he should get that much.

Yes but he is still that of a.... 3rd line player. IMHO It's contracts like Clarkson is gonna get that teams are gonna be shying away from, what if he becomes the next Jokinen? has scored 30 goals, passes waivers and then goes for a merely conditional 7th. I just think cap space will be our best friend in the coming years and dont wanna waste it on 3rd line players when we can just give the shot to a guy like Hamilton.

I am not sold on Couterier's upside.

I would give Joe C, a healthy look before dealing Gardiner.

At the moment we only have like 2 solid top 4 Dmen.

If we move Gardiner, do it for an established top 6 C, not a guy who is struggling on a offensively loaded team.

Since no one is giving up their quality top 6 C just for Gards, and we do have a bigger hole in d, we need to just hold onto him. If Couturier was here, you all would be ripping on him right now.

Needs a new poll. Perhaps...

Which upcoming UFA is most likely to be retained?
Bozak
MacArthur
Orr
O'Bryne
Kostka

Bozak and Orr IMO.

We can spend 4-4.5 on Clarkson and that will only be 1.25M more than MacArthur and put him with the Kessel line and watch him do great.

We're going to have 9 top six forwards if we don't already have 9 of them.

I hope this next season is Grabo's shape up or ship out year

Our offense would be so lethal going into the playoffs if Grabovski can start playing well.

Clarkson is also listed as a RW. Have either Kessel or Clarkson played significant time on the other side?

I think Clarkson played LW when Parise was a Devil.

So I don't think a switch would hurt his play.

If not, he can be slotted on our 2nd second line.

JvR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Kulemin
Clarkson-Grabovski/Colborne-Frattin

That's one deep offense AND it still has Bozak as our #1C.

From what I recall he's a RW and parise's a LWer so it's unlikely. Might be in a blue moon but then again I could be wrong as well.

Really curious to see what Nonis does this summer. Very passive so far, but again, haven't given him much time. Like does he want to trade for a high pick? Trade for a D? Sell Kessel, and build from Lupul/JVR? Whats gonna happen?

Vancouver fans I think will say that is his biggest fault. Always afraid to make the big move.

But if he apparently did most of the leg work on the Phaneuf deal, maybe he has changed

Should go for Stastny in the summer IMO, or if any other comparable C is available.

Definitely need a top 4 d-man though. Maybe vet goalie, but that's more of an optional need.
