No one really gave details on what happened-but from when the talking heads have talked about it--it sounds like a very bad problem.

Someone can correct me--but on of the big difference was with the BJS he starting playing 10 to 14minutes a night and on the oilers he was at about 5 to 7

I would be quite okay with not acquiring anybody who has previously worn the Oilers' sweater.

It's no secret, Chimera left on very bad terms for whatever reason. Probably had to do with Lowe. But he played especially nasty against us when he left.

I think all we need is another player to replace Smyth and another defenceman to replace Potter and we have a tolerable lineup.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Gagner-Hemsky
???-Horcoff-Yakupov
Hartikainen-Lander-Brown

Smyth and Jones are simply not good enough for this team right now, nor is Belanger. We saw last night our top 6 is more than capable of providing enough offence if they give it 100%, so we should not be worried about finding a big top 6 forward with skill; we have him in Paajarvi and giving Paajarvi top 6 minutes is crucial for his development.

If we find a decent pass-first option for the third line, it could make some noise with Horcoff worrying about defence and Yakupov sniping. I thought of having Harty on the 3rd line but I don't think he is offensively capable enough to be playing with Yakupov. I have no idea who we could trade for that would fit here well, a Glencross/Kulemin would fit here perfectly imo.

Our 4th line actually looks quite good, maybe a more capable player to replace Brown if they are having a hard time cycling down low.

As for defence what do we have now?

Smid-Petry
???-J.Schultz
Whitney-Potter/Fistric

Our defence is honestly not that bad. I personally love Fistric and we could certainly use another player like him to replace N.Schultz. I am not sure who could be had to slot in there, but I would love a Boychuk-type who can do it all. Whitney is playing great lately, and this would allow us to just stop playing Potter.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Gagner-Hemsky
Glencross-Horcoff-Yakupov
Hartikainen-Lander-Brown

Smid-Petry
Fistric-J.Schultz
Whitney-Boychuk

That team right there could do wonders, all depending on if our top 6 can start producing which I have no doubt they will. That gives us 4 capable lines, and no Belanger/Jones/Smyth/Petrell.

We have more than enough assets to make something like this happen.

Still boggles my mind how we let Glencross walk in the first place.

Just remember that Calgary traded Martin St.Louis before they knew what he was fully capable of.

Meh. He wouldn't be producing nearly as much if he was here. He gets all the opportunities in the world in Calgary. Here, he'd be a 30-40 point 3rd liner

But he's a good skater and tough as nails. 30 teams in the league would benefit having him in their bottom 6

And really, that is all we need. A Glencross or Foligno type would be key. I am mostly focusing on teams who are out of the race or are certainly making the playoffs though.

Fleischmann, Hartnell, Joel Ward, Kopecky, Korpikoski, Moss would all be great fits on our 3rd line and would make our team so much better.

These guys are top-6 forwards and Kopecky is a top-9 guy, comfortably.

And I bet we could get one of the two from Florida for picks and a roster player. Even if they are second liners on our team, that bumps someone down and still makes us a way better team.

Korpikoski is someone I really want for that third line though, great defensively and is a pass first player from what I've seen.

I wonder what Calgary would ask from us for Glencross? I'd offer both our second round picks.

Korpikoski, to me, is a product of the system in Phoenix.

The guys, of those you listed, that I would be most interested in would be, in order, Hartnell, Kopecky and Ward.

Fleischmann is Florida's #1 center, I don't see him being moved.

The rumor is Glencross for Bishop, which is Ottawa hilariously ripping off Calgary.

Possibly, but watching him he looks to actually be a pretty responsible defence-first type player. He is big and very fast too, and puts up half decent points even in the Phoenix system. He would certainly help our team although I don't know what Phoenix would want for him.

Hartnell would be great as well and would probably bump Paajarvi down to our 3rd line which isn't a bad thing, but Hartnell would probably cost a little more than Edmonton is willing to spend. To be honest I have not really seen Kopecky play but I know he is a big winger who puts up points.

Martin St. Louis ... Marc Savard ... Brett Hull ... Doug Gilmour

Say what you want about Tambellini, the Flames feature prominently on a lot of "worst trades of all time" lists.

Yeah, there's not a lot of concern. Sam Gagner's not getting $6M from the Oilers.

And we aren't going to have a 2M back up either. Belanger can be moved, Smyth could retire, Jones is movable.

Plenty of give with that lineup.

Belanger and Smyth likely bought out. 3 million saved

Gagner signs no higher than 4.5 - 5 million, or is traded. 1 million saved

Why is Jones at 2 million? 750k saved

Khabibulin ain't worth 2 million. 1 million saved

Thats about 5.75 million saved

The Nugent Hopkins year is trickier, a lot trickier.

I would think Belanger can't be moved. Who would want him with his overpaid contract? Smyth isn't going anywhere, and a replacement for Jones will cost close. I doubt Khabby is brought back, but a decent backup will cost some coin.
Regarding Eager, I thought you could only buy out players making over $3M?
