Would love to see him on the Oilers. Still in his prime, albeit struggling with injuries this year. Small chance he might come at a lower price point due to the bad year, but it's unlikely given how much of a premium NHL GMs put on top 9 guys who can play tough.

But he's not a fourth liner or bottom pairing defenseman, so I doubt the Oilers will pay him much heed as a UFA.

I am not sure if they are useless, if you expect them to be 20 goal scorers and eat up 15 mins of ice yes they will be, but if you let hte beast off the chain when someone gets out of line i think htey are very useful .

I think Jones is integral in the dressing room, so that they be an issue.

The reason why I have no problem replacing Petrell and Belanger is because I don't believe those two have much of a dressing room impact.

That's also what makes trading Ryan Whitney difficult. He is a great friend of Hall and Eberle, so his absence could change the room. I feel like they should deal him, but then I think "How will Eberle and Hall feel?"

A 4th line player does not need to score, he needs to hit and play hard, that is what Brown does. You don't see too many 4th liners that get many points. You want a guy that can skate, be able to play and fight, Brown does that.

They need to think of a 4th line C. Smyth if filling in fine but being in a playoff hunt with Belanger and Smyth as 4th line C should be temporary and Belanger needs to go. Either bring up Lander or something.

That's probably your solution

I think this would be a decent 12 to roll with

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Gagner-Hemsky
Jones-Horcoff-Yakupov
Torres-Smyth-Brown
Lander

No Belanger or Petrell there. Brown, Lander and Smyth could switch in and out, depending on the team you're facing or momentum.

I would take Torres on this team in a heartbeat. A dirty piece of ****, but exactly what this team needs right now.

Or

Torres on the 3rd line and bump Jones down to the 4th.

Jones's effectiveness may have been curtailed by his eye injury, but he is still a valuable personality on this team, and a better player than anyone we're playing on the 4th line right now.

I think Brown has been a great addition! dont get me wrong pls, i just want someone to share that load with him it must be hard on someones body knowing the game you have to play everyday and i have had some friends who have played pro hockey and been fighters, they have said your hands get soar after a while punching heads helmets and where ever else you land on the other guy.

The reality is that the goon type of players who only fight are long gone. In today's NHL, a tough guy who fights also has to know how to play and contribute. The game has become too fast with all the clutching and grabbing gone and because of the salary cap, I strongly believe it would be wasted money. There are only a certain amount of spots and those type of players would be in the press box 90% of the time. Don't get me wrong, EDM needs more toughness, that's a given, but going the route you mentioned is not smart.

Caron would be a good get, and the pick will likely be a 5-6th. That is a good return for a D-man whos mobility is shot and has questionable decision making.

Caron can be a nice 3rd liner for us. A young NHLer in return for Whitney is far more than i expected.
Still wanna trade Whitney for a c level prospect and a 5th? Had a very good game, his game and mobility have really came around. My guess is that his off season training wasn't as good as it should have been and now his cardio is getting to where it needs to be for him to play bigger minutes.

Caron and a 2nd is a fair deal for Whitney if he's not in our long term plans. I don't know much about Caron, but he'd be worth taking a chance on. TBH the pick is likely the better asset of the two, but maybe the light bulb goes on like it has for Paajarvi this year?

On air crew for San Jose says Vancouver's GM is taking in the Sharks-Phoenix game tonight.

Would rather have size than can play. Ideally we would find a shut down line as the 3rd and size/energy line as the 4th and Brown would be 13th. Zharkov/Khaira/Moroz/Kessy/Ewanyk might make good 4th liners one day. (like quality 4th liners on a contender, not devaluing them)

^those 5 guys, plus whatever we can draft this year to add to them, should bode well for us in the near future when some of these guys are ready.

My assumption is Canucks are looking at Torres, Clowe and Handzus.

EDIT: Handzus didn't play

I really wish Big Mac could play just a little. There's a big difference between a Brown deterrent and a Nuclear Mac deterrent.
This is what we need:

The kind of toughness you really need are guys like Getzlaf, Glenncross, Souray, Iginla, etc. Skilled guys that play a tough game. Too bad we let one of these guys walk away.

I can see what your saying with using a roster spot and cap for someone who may only be used a few times a month is not a good way of spending money, but i believe if you find the player oyu want put him in your system and put some time in them skating lessons and such to make them more effective it might be an investment but could have a reward when ur top guys are not getting run out of the building or on the IR . i just hope we find something to protect our skilled players.

If EDM beats CGY Monday I can't see them trading anyone and they will probally just go with the team they have.
