Hey, teeth for hockey players is like changing tires on a car. You need to replace them every few years.

Observation. They'll want to catch the earliest signs of ANY concussion-like symptoms

I take it some of you have never had any experience with any kind of oral surgery before? I had one about 12 years ago that probably required less work than what Crosby is going through. Leading up to the surgery the doctors told me it was possible that I would have to spend the night at the hospital after it was completed. I had the surgery early in the morning and spent most of the day in a hospital bed. The doctors needed to make sure there were no odd side effects from the drugs they put me on. Turned out I was able to leave in the evening.

The point is after most surgeries you don't just get up and leave once it's done.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby needed oral surgery after being hit in the face by a puck in Pittsburgh’s 2-0 win against the New York Islanders Saturday afternoon at CONSOL Energy Center.

“Sidney Crosby took a puck to the teeth, and lost a few of those,” head coach Dan Bylsma said. “He lost a few of those. He had to have oral surgery. We’ll continue to evaluate and monitor that. That’s the report on ‘Sid’ going to the hospital and losing teeth.”

Crosby was on the ice for his first shift when a shot by defensemen Brooks Orpik was deflected into Crosby’s mouth. He left the game and did not return.

I think what we meant by OK, is that he'll be able to play the next game

When he lost teeth the first time, does anyone remember how long he was out?

He never lost teeth before that I can recall. Hatcher chipped his front teeth.

Christ, watching those teeth fly out was not pleasant. Sure, there are more serious and gruesome injuries but to watch, this is one of the worst injuries IMO. I know these guys are playing in the NHL but losing your teeth at age 20-40 must be terrible. Having to get fake teeth and never being able to get your real teeth back at that age is a horrible thought.

But they're fake, so he had to have surgery to get new ones in, now if you're saying he didn't miss a step then, he's obviously not gonna miss a step now.

Just please, once again, tell Orpik to never shoot, except for if it's a wrist shot

Talked about in the injury thread. As far as we know, it's just dental issues but the updates have been vague.

I agree with you completely . . . It's actually quite sad and I can only imagine it would horrifically painful. Like unbelievable. It looked gruesome them flying for sure - surprised you could see them in the slow-mo. Such bad luck for Sid.

You don't need surgery for chipped teeth.

Yeah i hate the monster threads. TLDR;

Something like this deserves its own thread.

Yeah so far from looking around the web all I have seen have been vague reports from yesterday. Nobody has anything current from today. Hopefully nothing too serious is going on.

MOD: It's not worthy of it's own thread, it's being talked about in a thread already.

Chipping a tooth aint no thing. Done it a couple times. Takes the dentist like 30 minutes to make it look brand new.

I would think there would be a lot of swelling with this type of injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he misses Tuesday because of that.

If the tooth in the front was chipped bad enough he definitely would have needed a root canal. My buddy had his two front teeth cracked recently and needed a double root canal.

Shelly Anderson just tweeted

"No promises, but there could be some sort of update from #Penguins on Sidney Crosby today."
