So they should trade for Wayne Simmonds?

if you want to solve the Rags offensive problems, look no further than Torts.

Yakupov won't make much of a difference. this is a whole team problem.

Or look no further than the players that are underperforming? The coach can only do so much.

This would definitely have to happen first. If Gabby fetched a Dman it could open the door for this deal. As an Oil fan I could get down with it. Guess it comes down to what the Rags prefer moving forward - Gabby + McD or Yak + the return for Gabby. For the Rags the Yak scenario comes with less certainty but more cap flexibility.

McD-Schultz could finally be a legit first pair for us.

Doesn't really need explaining but just for you. In whose world is it ok to trade the 1st overall pick for a defensive defenseman?? Seriously this wouldn't happen. Why is this even a thread?

ok. fair point. but then, Yakupov isn't exactly lighting it up for the Oilers either.

he's way too raw to make a difference now. and let's face it, the Rags are a 'we want to win now' team.

The best offense is a good defense.

A world where one team needs offense and one team needs defense?

An immediate no.

There is no logical trade between the Rangers and Oilers for Yakupov.

The problem is the Oilers value Yakupov as high as what they think he will become because they have no reason to trade him and teams wanting him want to pay for his potential without the assumption he will be a guaranteed star.

I would rather wait 2-3 years, and then deal one of our forwards, just in case Yak is the best of the young kids we have.
