The Sharks will only trade him if they get a good return, ie not what you or others have been offering.

What's a realistic price from the Kings for Clowe?

It was traded for Jeff Carter (alongside Jack Johnson).

Ouch.. I'm not an expert but I'm guessing it'd be quite a bit. You guys are quite the rivals (IMO)

(Seriously, despite being among our "downstate rivals" I am a massive fan of Kopitar, Brown, and Doughty)

But honestly, there would have to be a very high quality forward prospect in it along with a 2nd (if not another good prospect) if the Sharks are going to deal Clowe to the Kings where he would like end up re-signing. Jordan Weal comes to mind from what little I know of the Kings prospects. Could be better suggestions from folks who know more though.

Ok. Then Forbort, 2nd & a conditional 2nd (if he re-signs) for Clowe

I'd give up Kristo and Nashville's second rounder... And a conditional third if he re-signs in Montreal.

What if he was signed before getting traded to MTL?

It makes no sense to trade anything too valuable for Clowe. He's a 45-point player the last two years and he'd be playing 3rd line AT BEST on the Habs, but more likely on a Prust-Halpern-Clowe line.
Two major flaws with this way of thinking:
  1. Waiting to this summer doesn't help the Habs for a playoffs push this year, as he's exactly the type of player they need; and
  2. This summer, every team in the league will be able to talk to him for a new contract.

People panic at the price reportedly asked. Why? It's rarely true anyway! It was reported that the price for Iginla was Lucic and a first. It sure as heck wasn't the case... The only question fans should ask themselves is if the player would make their team better and in this case, the Habs are superiour with Clowe than without him.

t would be interesting to take a shot at someone like Clowe.

But unless it's fairly cheap in terms of assets, or if he is signed below market value for the long term, I don't see too many teams biting on that.

I absolutely cannot imagine SJ trading Clowe in the west - overpayment or not

Kristo + Calgary's second is more like it. If there is a bidding war, that puts you in contention but you still may need to add a conditional 2nd (2014) if he re-signs.

I'd do that, would San Jose?

Or both of those offers are **** and already much worse than what DW has turned down, so he just says no and keeps Clowe.

I guess there isn't any news being leaked? Lol

But the Sharks are one of the most tight-lipped orgs out there with trades, injuries, etc. so it could just be that...or it's just the calm before the storm. :-)

It's also Easter, so that could be the reason...just a hunch on my part that it won't happen today. I could be wrong!
