I don't think he's faking it, I think he's a priss, he's not tough enough (both mentally and physically) and as such he's convinced himself that he should not play.
That's entirely possible, but we have literally nothing to go on either way for that. We know he had some sort of illness (the flu?) and got hit in the head with a puck. Any conclusions we draw from that are basically our own creations.
So it's akin to saying "I don't like him." Which is fine... let's just not pretend it's anything deep.
And, again, not playing serves no purpose for him. So he has to honestly believe that playing would do more harm than good for himself and for the team.
