Canadian International Cup?

Just thought about the possibility of Canada one year doing a big off-season memorial cup kind of tournament. using best on best players, meaning pros are allowed.

There will be a team of Quebec, Ontario and then the West. Similar to the CHL. So if you were BORN in one of the three regions you can play for that team.

Simple tourny. Every team plays each other once and then the two best record teams will take on each other for a tournament.

Who would be on each team and who would win? Lets say it happened this year for roster talk.

Oh good God, Ontario would obliterate the rest of the country. It would never happen though. Players wouldn't go full out and risk injury. It would be more like a showcase like the '94 NHLPA event. (which was awesome by the way!)

Using just the 2014 Team Canada Invite List, here is a breakdown by Hometown according to TSN. I think it's safe to say Ontario would destroy.

Ontario

Mike Smith

Dan Boyle
Drew Doughty
Marc Methot
Alex Pietrangelo
Marc Staal
PK Subban

Jeff Carter
Logan Couture
Matt Duchene
Claude Giroux
Taylor Hall
Rick Nash
James Neal
Corey Perry
Mike Richards
Patrick Sharp
Eric Staal
Jordan Staal
Steven Stamkos
John Tavares
Joe Thornton

West (Manitoba + West)

Braden Holtby
Carey Price

Karl Alzner
Jay Bouwmeester
Mike Green
Dan Hamhuis
Travis Hamonic
Duncan Keith
Dion Phaneuf
Brent Seabrook
Shea Weber

Jordan Eberle
Ryan Getzlaf
Chris Kunitz
Andrew Ladd
Milan Lucic
Jonathan Toews

East (Quebec + East)

Corey Crawford
Roberto Luongo

Kris Letang
Marc-Edouard Vlasic

Patrice Bergeron
Sidney Crosby
Brad Marchand
Martin St. Louis

I believe Ontario does produce the most NHL players but I think it be a fair fight for all 3 providences. First off, I dont remember calling it the Canadian INTERNATIONAL cup lol.

But if I did, im sorry. Thats a dumb name for this.

Anyway. I am sure Quebec would produce and awesome team.
Lecavalier, Briere, Brodeur, PMB just to add to the list

You're forgetting some good players though. Quebec + Crosby and Marchand would be decent.

Hall could be West. +Benn, RNH, Iginla, Turris, Lupul, etc

Atlantic + Quebec

Dupuis Crosby St. Louis
Marchand Bergeron Pominville
Lecavalier Richards Parenteau
Burrows Ribeiro Ryder
Brassard

Beauchemin Letang
Vlasic Demers
Gormley Robidas
Bergeron

Luongo
Crawford
Brodeur

Based on where players were trained. Forwards are pretty well rounded. It was hard to make decisions near the end, particularly as it related to young guys like MacKinnon/Huberdeau. Defence has a nice first pairing, and a solid defensive second unit, but the third is pretty weak. MA Bergeron is needed for PP purposes, because outside of Letang none of the defencemen bring much value offensively. Goaltending is OK. None of it would matter though, because this team would get destroyed by Ontario and West.

I would say make it a 4 team tourney atleast with East/Quebec Ontario Manitoba/Saske for central and Alberta/BC for west and the central teams can have guys from the territories etc.

Could stick Despres on the defence.

The idea was supposed to be for players born in a specific region. I made it three out of the 3 major CHL leagues.

It can be four. British Columbia, Central/West, Ontario, Quebec and atlantic.

Players born, not trained or heritage comes from...

I think it be great to see it.
