Canada would probably be even bigger favorites to win a tournament with second teams than Olympic team imo. However, I believe no. 2 would very likely be the US. Subtracting suggested roster players from all kinds of publicly assembled teams gives that the US more than other countries (except Canada) have a large base of established NHL players.

Add your second team roster here and also give us the players from the "first" team. Use 14 forwards, 8 defesemen and 3 goalies for both teams.

Now this is a pretty interesting experiment. For Finland, let's see...

Finland A:

Pekka Rinne
Tuukka Rask
Antti Niemi

Joni Pitkänen - Toni Lydman
Kimmo Timonen - Sami Salo
Ossi Väänänen - Sami Vatanen
Joonas Järvinen - Janne Niskala

Valtteri Filppula - Mikko Koivu - Tuomo Ruutu
Lauri Korpikoski - Petri Kontiola - Mikael Granlund
Jussi Jokinen - Saku Koivu - Teemu Selänne
Leo Komarov - Aleksander Barkov - Sean Bergenheim

Juhamatti Aaltonen
Jesse Joensuu

Finland B:

Kari Lehtonen
Niklas Bäckström
Antti Raanta

Sami Lepistö - Juuso Hietanen
Petteri Nummelin - Jere Karalahti
Olli Määttä - Rasmus Ristolainen
Ilari Melart - Topi Jaakola

Ville Leino - Olli Jokinen - Mika Pyörälä
Janne Pesonen - Jarkko Immonen - Sakari Salminen
Niklas Hagman - Jori Lehterä - Joel Armia
Antti Pihlström - Niko Kapanen - Teemu Hartikainen

Petteri Nokelainen
Lennart Petrell

I made no attempts to adjust the amount of players so that B would have at least a little more quality. A is what I would pick for Finland's Sochi team as of right now. I did role out the teams correctly though, so technically what's now a fourth liner in B could become a fourth liner in A if one inhabiting the corresponding slot was sidelined (instead of simply promoting a first line guy).

Yeah, the quality takes a pretty deep nosedive shortly after filling the A roster. Though surprisingly enough, I'd actually still feel relatively comfortable heading into a WHC even with B.

I wonder how the russian team would look...if there is the same nosedive as Sweden. Same here, our B team would be fine for WC. Especially defense.

Pretty good B team goalies...

Canada's best forwards outside of the first team bring lots of size. Tried to balance the lines with playmakers and goal scorers. Unlike the first team, the second team has superior players on the left side. Goaltending is still a crapshoot.

Where's Persson?

Nyquist/Andersson should be on first line on team B > or at least top 6...

Anyway Swedens team B (your edition) have a real nice looking defence.
