Says he's in the minors now. I wonder what's with all the love from MB if that's really the case. I mean is he physical, offensive, defensive, mobile, good passer? Enquiring minds want to know!
He projects as an offensive defenseman. Scored at a pretty good clip in the AHL last year.

I've heard his name mentioned as tradebait before from Columbus but Montreal seems like a weird fit.

I don't want anything to do with O'Byrne. Useless d-man in every aspect of the game. Not even effective to clear the crease despite his size.

If we're to get O'Byrne, we might as well just play our rookies.

To be honest I'm hoping Dallas re-signs him, because he's been the best part of this season for me as a Stars fan.

Will certainly understand if he gets moved, though, and if Montreal ups their offer and lands him anyways, I'll wish him all the best for you guys.
We've been rumoured to be "in on" Jagr for the last ten years, so why not this year too

Columbus beat writer:

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline 11m

Montreal has had interest in D David Savard for a while now. John Moore being a frequent scratch gets ya thinking, too.

#58 D | 6'2", 214 lbs. | Columbus
Birth Date:October 22, 1990 (22 years old)
Place of Birth:St. Hyacinthe, Que.
Shoots: R

Assets: Is a quality puck-mover from the back end. Has great lateral mobility and the potential to quarterback a power play. Produces points and also displays good NHL size.

Flaws: Needs to continue to get stronger physically in order to be capable of handling big National Hockey
League forwards in front of his own net. Struggles a bit in his own end.

Career Potential: Offensive defenseman with upside.

Hey, just pointing out that it does make sense, but I'm not sure whether or not Jags wants to leave Dallas right now, or if he's content to stick around for another year.

Hopefully the trade is nothing like the last Savard trade we made.

I guess if you can go out and get a Defencemen with top 4 potential for an affordable price you do it. But it seems like an odd move, given our depth of D at both the NHL and AHL level.

It would be an interesting depth move towards the 2013/14 season if we plan on moving Weber or Diaz by the deadline.

I'm half serious but I think MAB and Gill would be useful.

On one hand, he's always been one to chase the money and Dallas offers the lowest tax rate in the league. On the other hand your GM is a bit of a lunatic and Jags might not be interested in sticking around. We'll know by Wednesday.

Oh I concur. I'd give Kaberle and Weber a regular spot on the D squad before going for MAB or Gill.

You can never have too many of those guys when they also have size.
Also, anything you have in extra becomes movable assets.

Subban, Beaulieu, Diaz, Weber all offensive d-man. We don't need that anymore.

What does that even mean? Do you know for a fact that Savard is physical, or do you just want us to accumulate tall players?

Yes we do, you add more pieces, clearly this team likes offensive minded dman and Markov is only getting older along with Frankie B. we just cleared Kaberle through waivers too didnt we.

Subban, Emelin, Diaz and gorges are the only long term players, we get savaged and have tinordi beaulieu Ellis and pateryn still developing. The defense is gonna be the strength of this team.

I dont know anything about this Savard guy, but puck moving D-men with size at that are valuable ither for the team or tradeable asstes. As an example, Diaz, not sure if the plan is to keep him long term, but if it isnt, and if he keeps playing after he returns like he was before his injury, we could get very good return for him. Only issue with this Savard guy is price, like with anybody else.
