I was thinking a little more on this David Savard chatter. I could see something around Savard and maybe a 2014 pick for Yannick Weber.
Reason being, we have our likely top 6 locked up next season. We have 2-3 guys really who could really push Weber down the depth chart in Tinordi and Beaulieu, and maybe even Pateryn. We could even add another D-Man as a UFA or at the trade deadline.
Weber is no longer Waiver exempt and would definitely be taken if we tried to assign him to Hamilton. Savard would give us another waiver exempt D-Man in our system giving us more flexibility.
Savard is a better defenseman than weber. It would take more than that to get him.
SAN JOSE — Sharks veteran forward Ryane Clowe sounded like a man at peace Monday whether trade rumors swirling around him prove to be true or not.
With a no-trade clause in his contract, Clowe and his agent are part of the process as general manager Doug Wilson considers offers from nearly a dozen teams reportedly interested in signing Clowe, whose contract expires June 30. Multiple sources are reporting that a deal could happen as early as today.
"I'm aware of what's going on and anything happening with me has to go through me, so we'll see," Clowe said, declining to say whether he thought a deal would happen or not. "I don't want to give a percentage or anything. Would I be surprised? Probably not. I wouldn't be shocked.
Several reports said Clowe and his agent, Kent Hughes, were interested in a trade-and-sign with a contract extension in place when Clowe arrives with his new team.
"If I go somewhere, I'm not going to sign unless I see potential, but it's definitely something I'd be open to," Clowe said. "On the other hand, if it had to come down somewhere as a rental it wold probably be to a team that's a top team looking at making a run. We'll see."
