Unfortunately once you get down towards the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, no one gives a **** about pro sports. College sports are the big draw. I lived down there for years and the only people who ever talked about sports were transplants from up North.

These are teams that can't even sell out games when they are good. And when they are bad? Have you seen the stands of a Marlins game? At least when the Kings won the cup there was some acknowledgement it happened from PA. The Southeast doesn't even know there's a sporting event going on.

That's not all people in the Southeast of course, but it was just lame being the big fan I am. That said, I think I'd still live in Florida. It would be nice to see my team when they come to town for 5 bucks and be able to get front row seats.

Just wanted to point out that the Southeast is much worse than the Pacific in my opinion.

I know from friends living there that part of this is the fact to a large degree professional sports has ignored the region for many years. There are exceptions but until 20 years ago many of the major franchises weren't there. And in that time college sports has gotten a giant foothold. You root for who you have and who's been with you through it all.

But that is kind of the story of the SE the last few years.
This.

People are forgetting that Washington changed coaches and didn't have a normal training camp to figure out the new system. They had to learn on the fly and are now playing how Oates wants them to play. 7-2-1 in their last 10 isn't bad.

At least they are a +5 in goal differential. The jets are a minus 22.

Coyotes back in the picture? I like their team, and I generally like Doan except he plays against Kings (which means when he can control his ****), it'd be a great troll-job if they upset Hawks or Ducks in the first round.

Meh the Oilers just won 5 in a row to. Hard to say wether the Caps are turning things around or just on a nice run. Even still they aren't real contenders, that D/Goaltending inspires no confidence imo.

They still don't control their own fate. They have one against the Wings which would be the team they would be most likely to catch since the Blues have 2 games in hand. But 3 points in 10 games is doable but going to go down to the wire.

But they aren't exactly proving that major franchises should be put there when you only get a couple thousand to show up for games. I get that they were overlooked but even with all the teams that are now there and have been for years, there is still not much support. The only thing they seem to be encouraging is pro teams moving elsewhere. And maybe they wouldn't really care that much as they still have college teams to root for.

Carolina is at 94% this year in attendance. I wouldn't call that bad and they are the worst for this year in attendance in the SE. And that is using ESPN's numbers which are commonly off when it comes to capacity and it's always wrong high in every case I have checked.

Yea, I have no clue where this "couple thousand" came from....starting to sound like the bitter Canadian fans that troll the main boards.

That's pretty impressive, considering the teams are playing poorly.

Following up on this, I believe the Kings might make it 100% capacity for the first time in the franchise's history.

Ok, definitely higher than I thought. Not sure what makes this year so different. The past two years Florida, Carolina, Tampa Bay have all been near the bottom. The couple thousand was an overstatement. Everyone, even phoenix and BJs, pulls over 10,000 fans a game. I look at things like this:

And I make judgements. The Tampa Bay Rays while having an incredible year in 2008, still only filled the park to 60% capacity. NFL teams numbers are constantly low, particularly Miami who hasn't been in the top 20 for 5 years. You can say it's cause they haven't been that good but Indianapolis was still third in attendance despite the atrocious year in 2011.

I'm not trying to imply that fans are better than other fans because we have more attendance or some ********. I'm only telling you my experience. When I went to a sports bar, it was always the Clemson or a North Carolina game on. If there was a hockey game on, it was the Flyers/Rangers, not Hurricanes/Panthers. People wore Atlanta Braves hats cause they thought it made them more ghetto, they didn't know a single thing about the team. I'm a big Phillies fans so I've kept track of the Marlins for many years and their stadium would constantly look like this:

Seriously, I don't care about the fans vs. fans argument. I just wished that there was more interest in pro sports down south. That's all.

Not the first time an entire division hasn't been very good. The 86-87 Norris division had every team under .500, over a full season.

Washington is easily the best team in that division when they want to be. Take out their January record, and their record isn't that bad. They are 11-3 against the SE though, so, there's that.

Most teams have a winning record against the SE this year. Montreal is 11-0. The weird thing is that Buffalo is 2-8-2 against the SE for some reason. If the Sabres didn't play that division, their record looks much better.

Washington has enough talent to be a tough out in the playoffs, if they make it.

STL beat DET 1-0.

Seems like 5-5-0, putting them at 57 points would just about do it for the Kings regardless of what anyone else does.

PHX: 40 points in 38 games, meaning they would have to go 8-1-1 to get to 57.
EDM: 39 points in 38 games, have to go 9-1-0 to reach 57.
CBJ: 39 points in 38 games, have to go 9-1-0 to reach 57.
NSH: 38 points in 39 games, can't reach 57.
DAL: 37 points in 37 games, have to go 10-1-0 to reach 57.
CGY & COL: Can't reach 57.

Even then, if the Kings were to get 2 or 3 ROWs in those 5 wins they would win that tiebreaker against every team except for Dallas.

7-3 would give the Kings 61 points and DEFINITELY clinch the playoffs no matter what else anyone else does -- there are seven teams with max points of 60 or less. So, 57 is reasonably safe, as you indicate above, but a full on clinch is only 14 points away.

I was just about to complain that the Stars were giving the Sharks #8 in a row when they went down 2-0, and very quickly it's 2-2. C'mon Stars! (In regulation, naturally)

Why couldn't Lehtonen give up 4 against us earlier this season? I'm pretty sure in his last 4 games he's give up 15 goals. Although, SJ is just daring the Stars to tie it up again with numerous turnovers.

4-2 sj in the 2nd
