Are you sure he didn't say their goal was to lose every game?
I know your being sarcastic because a teams goal should always be to win.
But that's not the same as before with this team. There were interviews where they said their goal on the home stand was 4-2 or whatever. They seem to try to be very realistic like we do on the forums when we look at a group of games. If they win more, awesome they have a head start. If they lose more then they need to really pick it up. Obviously the work ethic should be there every game.
So them saying that is their goal is a change from before. The 4-0 or 3-1 is what they know they have to do to keep the playoff race in their hands and hopefully not rely on anyone else.
(not just saying this for you, more for anyone who was wondering because it's kind of weird and I was thrown off when I first heard it as well.)
Anyways, If we today and the Blues AND Red Wings lose then the race becomes a lot closer for us. If we lose and they both win then it becomes a really daunting task, way more than the situation we are in now.
If Edmonton wins tonight and Phoenix and Chicago win it will be HUGE. If we lose but Detroit and St.Louis win I think we're done unfortunately.
Agree with the first part completely.
I don't think we're necessarily done though if the other scenario plays out, the Oilers have put themselves in a position to be able to lose 3 or 4 games at the most, as long as they they do it against the right teams.
The division and Detroit might be out of reach, but they might still be able to pass STL.
