Frans Nielsen

Isles just signed our college prospect center Anders Lee and will more than likely have him on the roster immediately. With rumors linking Frans to a trade to Chicago, I'd say the odds of him being traded have increased. Frans has 3 years left at a $2,750,000 cap hit. Good #2 center, great #3 center. This all being said, what would teams such as Vancouver, Chicago or Anaheim offer; I could see Frans slide in as a #2 to both Anaheim or Chicago and temporarily in Vancouver until Kesler is back.

Any other offers more than welcome as well except for Atlantic Division teams (sorry, you know it's hard to trade in division)

Why would the Isles move him though? Is this to be a perpetual rebuild, or are they actually gonna try to keep their best players and build something?

I didn't realize he had 3 years left at what seems to be.a pretty nice cap hit... that makes me a lot more interested in him

What are Isles needs?

Not sure he'd be worth what NYI would want for him, I'd rather go to the Stars for Jagr or Roy.

However, Toews-Kane-Nielsen would be the nastiest shootout team ever.

Only move that I can think of that makes much sense:

to NYI: Bernier

to LAK: Streit + Nielsen

I wouldn't want to give up Nielsen in a deal with Ottawa.

The speculated Chicago deals make zero sense for the Islanders. We have Dylan Olsens. We have Jeremy Morins.

I doubt Snow does, not until Lee, Nelson, and Strome prove they are quality NHL players, which is not going to happen this year.

Tied for the 8th seed, let's trade our best penalty killer, best 2 way center, and the best shootout player in the league because we signed one of our better prospects. I dont think so.

Tavares and Cizikas already have two of the center spots. Belief is Anders Lee and Brock Nelson are future #2 and #3 centers. Both big body forwards who can score.

How about
Hawks send Stalberg & Olsen
for

Nielsen and a pick (2nd or 3rd rounder) or a lesser round if Stalberg doesn't resign

Staple tweeted a few days ago "No chance" Frans is moved. With his contract, I can't see the Isles moving him.

Lee in, Reasoner out.

The Isles have no incentive to move their best penalty killer.

How realistic is it that any player on their roster can do what Nielsen does? The guy is underrated.

From the Hawks I'd say take your puck from Stalberg, Bickell, Frolik, Montador, Olsen, 4th or later picks in this years draft, possibly Bolland (more from a cap space prospective than a performance one... we would surely miss him during playoffs).

Other prospects include Ben Smith, Hayes bros, Morin, Pirri, Bollig.... I think really anybody could be had not named Saad, Danault, or Teravainen

I don't think you trade him now...but perhaps in the offseason.

If you can package him and a prospect that brings you back a top 6 forward (ideally a #2 center) then why keep him? Anything short of that though & you keep him.

Isles have plenty of center depth in the pipeline. Casey Cizikas is here right now & is IMO just as good if not better than Frans Nielsen is in all areas (except playmaking). Brock Nelson will fight for a spot next year. Anders Lee is also with the club now, and will get a look. and it's still too early to count out Kirill Kabanov. That's 3-4 guys who all project as good 3rd line centers in the NHL. Strome of course projects as more, and he too will be fighting for a spot next year.

Not for nothing, but Frans has become so underrated, that he's actually overrated. He's a solid 3rd line center, very good PKer, elite shootout specialist who has 1 even strength goal on the season. He's definitely part of our core, and he definitely can be part of a winning Islanders team. But he also isn't an untouchable.

And frankly with the way he's played this year (pretty average), the kids are starting to push him out.

I couldn't disagree with you more Mario.

Lee, Strome, Brock Nelson all have a combined 0 nhl games played. Isles, Rangers, Devils, Caps and Flyers are bunched together, fighting for the 7th and 8th seeds with 13/14 games left.

Only among fans, will you find the suggestions that Frans Nielsen be moved from the Isles 2nd line and replaced with a bright and shiny rookie.
Yesterday, Staple answered fans tweets about Nielsen being moved. His answer is below.

Having been asked, I asked a source about Nielsen rumors: "No chance they trade Frans." There you have it. #Isles

For the most part, Casey Cizikas already is.

Yep, the signing of an alright prospect is definitely indication that Nielsen is about to be moved...

Won't matter. The stat junkies will say a players not worth much when he hasn't broken 50 points.

Frans is a huge weapon in the shootout as well.

At this time I see no reason for the Isles to move him unless is for huge over payment, which likely won't happen.

Great, the Isles give up a center cog of their team right now for the spare parts from the Hawks, and hope a rookie with absolutely zero experience can step up in the midst of the first serious playoff push by the Isles since 2007. 10/10, grade A proposal

I just don't see a lot of realistic scenarios that have Frans leaving the Island.

Once they have a second line center to replace Frans, I think Frans still has a spot on this team as a third line winger.

Frans is the best Isles penalty killer and does so many other things for them.

I agree. if Frans is traded, it would have to be part of a bigger deal. There's no sense in dealing him for a pick or a prospect or a bunch of 3rd line NHLers. He's either part of a package to get a Top 4 (really top 2) Dman, #2 center or 1st line wing or he remains with the club.

But I do think from a defensive POV, Casey is already right there with Frans.

Not sure why he'd be on the table. Good contract for a fairly important piece. And at some point NYI has to ride a particular lineup.

Anders Lee is likely going to be playing on the wing.... and they already said they weren't trading him, so I don't get this thread at all. If he gets traded, it's going to be for a ridiculous overpayment.
