Nieto is blazing fast, it's his strongest attribute.

Oh, nevermind then. I knew he was fast, just wasn't sure if he was Michalek fast.

Nieto's speed is his best asset.

Absolutely has the speed.

Not sure I've seen anyone say he's a top line player...his projection has always been a 2nd line winger.

I think he might be faster. His accleration and first step are explosive. Doesn't take long for him to hit top speed.

No...he's a very speedy winger w/ an excellent shot. He has good hands, a decent physical game and has improved his two way game a lot.

I really, really hate player comparisons but if you're looking for one he's more like Seto lite w/ a better hockey IQ and two way game.

Haven't even seen him play and I'm excited

@coreypronman: Matt Nieto impressing in fist pro game. Just turned Matt Donovan inside out and created a beauty scoring chance.

He's sorta like Seto offensively but craftier like Pavs with higher hockey IQ. He's a very fast and smooth skater with great hands, he can dangle very well. His shot is a little like Seto's, lots of pretty one timers and sniping wristers, but don't like the Seto comparison in that Nieto is a much more well rounded player, he's amazing defensively and can throw big hits. Marleau isn't a good comparison because Nieto is grittier but they have similar speed and skating.

I think Havlat would be a decent comp, although comps are never very good.

Yeah I don't think we have anyone currently that fits exactly. In fact Nieto is exactly the type of player most of us have wanted for a long time now. I didn't bring up Havlat because of lack of grit and he's more of a pass first player, Nieto sorta reads the game like Pavs and is 50/50 shoot or pass. That said, I think Havlat is a good comp for speed, skating, and hands.

So a bigger, faster more skilled Tommy Wingels? Nieto plays a very north/south game. Thats what I like best.

Ya - that's pretty much what I said...though I don't agree with your description of his defensive play, yet.

Anyhow, his pro debut was very good even though the WorSharks lost (again). His speed caused lots of problems for BST and they used him in all situations.

On a side note, Hamilton continues to get better and better every game. Tarasov is impressive too. And Strome (BST) is really fun to watch!

On Hamilton- I listened to the WSharks game tonight, and Hamilton's probably been the name most frequently called tonight. I don't recall that happening very often at the beginning of the year when I listened too or watched a lot more Woo games.

Not really, but considering the options SJ has (pretending they don't make any more moves) I think he'd be their best bet to step into the lineup and contribute in sheltered minutes - but, since the Sharks are smart and not burning a year of his ELC it doesn't matter.

I do think he's going to get a good, long look at camp next year and it'll be up to him to earn a roster spot.
