Shawn Thornton.

Shawn Thornton that is.

What would a team need to give up to get him? Would be a fantastic 4th line addition to a playoff team.

Yeah, but the didn't play for the bruins as much during the playoffs last year. Didn't play every game.

Well, exactly. And the Bruins already know he's that and he has been that for them on playoff runs, including one cup run. Which results in his acquiration price being disproportionate to the value of his type of player.

Too much, make it a 5th IMO.

The only reason I see him being potentially traded is because of his diminished role during last years playoffs.

He has a diminished role on a team that roles 4 lines pretty evenly. How do you expect a team that doesn't play that way to make more use of him. Tough guys tend to play less in the post season.

Either way, I think he'd be very helpful to a team and would be more important to their playoff success than he is to Bostons.

A younger similar player and a late pick for Thornton sound right?

Such as Reaves, a 5th/6th?

Was thinking that if he somehow would become available then it would drive up the price. But I guess a 3rd is perhaps to high even for that. But he do have two cup rings for different teams.

Yeah, I can see that. But still, to a team in their situation, I would be pretty surprised to see something like that happen. Even if he isn't on there every night, as an organisation you love to have such guys you can throw in there without any second or eight thought. The realistic price for the type is usually something between a 3rd and a 5th, but with even the higher end 3rd being of very limited value, I don't think the Bruins would ever trade him as a known commodity on the verge of the playoffs for that. Everything beyond that would be too much for the acquiring team to make sense.

I just don't see it happening. Most of us expect Thornton to retire a Bruin and probably end up in a role working for the team after.

I can't say I wouldn't be fine with him leaving for the right return, but I just can't see it.

Not worth it. We would get pennies, more realistically A penny for him, and we shouldn't get anything more. Not worth trading him when he plays a such a big emotional role on our team.

Mike Brown got the Leafs a 4th (conditional 3rd if Oilers makes playoffs)

his value isn't any more than that

if at all that

i don't see a team desperate for a tough guy

I don't think the Bruins would miss Thornton on-ice, but he is big part of the club off the ice.

Of course, if they really wanted to shake up the team maybe he's the guy to go.

In the end, I can't imagine the Bruins trading Thornton just because his on-ice role will be reduced in the post-season.

Brown can pk.

Thornton is a better fighter and and about the same 5 on 5

I'd take him, but I doubt he'd fight anyone on the Bruins.

Why? What kind of credentials does Mike Brown have to be considered a more valuable fourth liner for a team looking to go deep in the playoffs? I don't see it.

I don't see the B's moving him; he is more valuable to them than anything he would bring in a trade...which would not be a whole lot anyways.
