Calgary Flames gameday Preview

CUNDARI MAKES HIS ST. LOUIS DEBUT

Mark Cundari, who was acquired in the Bouwmeester trade, will face his former team for the first time and while the young defenceman is excited to get into the lineup tonight, he's treating it like any other game.

"I've been in this dressing room a couple times before, camps and whatnot, but to be playing for another team, it's different," he said, gesturing around the visitors locker room. "I've got to play my game. It's the NHL so I've got to be as good as I can out there.

"I don't think I'm more motivated, it's still my first couple of games in the league, and every game for me is exciting. This one just has a little cherry on top ... for me, it's just another game actually."

The blueliner made his NHL debut on Sunday night in St. Paul, MN and scored his first goal and assist in a 4-1 win over the Wild. He was firing on all cylinders that night and, somehow, he managed to up his intensity another couple of notches on Tuesday in Nashville. His gung-ho style, however, was a bit of detriment in the game against the Preds as he was caught too far up in the play a couple of times that night.

In his third NHL contest, he's looking to play a more scaled-back, defensively-sound game.

"Getting that defensive game back where it needs to be," he said. "I kind of put a little pressure on myself after that first game to produce more. I don't need to; (I need to) let the game come to me. Being solid defensively is all I need to do."

Line up for your ABBOTSFORD HEAT

Mike Cammalleri - Matt Stajan - Lee Stempniak

Sven Baertschi - Mikael Backlund - Jiri Hudler

Paul Byron - Roman Horak - Roman Cervenka

Maxwell Reinhart - Blair Jones - Tim Jackman

Mark Giordano - Dennis Wideman

TJ Brodie - Mark Cundari

Chris Butler - Brett Carson

Joey MacDonald

I just realized we have more NHL players than AHL players in this game now, but I already started this GDT so I'm rolling with the theme dammit!

Lineup for the St. Louis Blues!

It's good, I guess.

Get Sven a point!

Interesting fact, if he gets a point tonight and Tarasenko doesn't, then he'll have a better points/game rate than Tarasenko.

Lovin that 2nd line!!

So basically St. Louis and Chicago have already clinched. Chances are they won't be going all out to win these games. If we win them both, we only go up one spot in the standings, but if we lose them both and the teams below us win, we can still get a top 3 pick. Right now we'd be drafting at #7. Personally wouldn't mind a better pick than that.

Will still be cheering on the boys! Go Flames!

And let's be reality if we finish ahead of Oilers and they get a better pick then us, AGAIN!?!! Wow. What a shameful organization.

They do at least have home ice advantage to play for. Chicago were still able to beat the Oilers in what should have been a big game for Edmonton; one of the last in front of their home fans of the year.

Too bad they're so well-practised at late-season tanking.

It's damn shameful. Look at these stats:

21 days ago the Oilers were in 8th place in the West, and 14th in the league. They had more teams behind them in the standings (16) than they had in front of them (13).

Since that time they've only earned 2 points, and have plummeted to 25th overall, and been passed by 11 teams.

If the Preds, Hurricanes and Bolts win tonight then they will be in 28th place. 14 teams will have passed them by in 21 days.

Greatest tankers in NHL history. No team has come close.

Well watching the draft if we win we prevent the Stl pick from dropping 2 spots while out pick likely will be 6-7.
If we lose better odds at our pick being 5-6 but St Louis will be fouth in the conference and same games remaining as the teams around them.

This might be a win that helps us in both the draft and having our team ready for next season!

My prediction: Blues take this one. Statistically, every time Jay Bo is on the ice the Flames lose more often than win

They're a bunch of losers, they don't have the leadership to become a great team. Unless things change this offseason, I expect them to be in the same position as this year.

Plus, isn't that the time of year where they drop in the standings every season?

It's pisses me off greatly that they may get another superstar while we don't.

I used to feel that way, but considering what they've done with the potential stars they've gotten in the last few years I'm not worried anymore.

You've got to be kidding me right? How do you expect "potential stars" to dominate the NHL when they aren't stars yet and just kids who are barely adults? By next year or the next Hall, Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins will be the best line in the NHL by far! I'd be worried...

They are one Seth Jones or elite goalie away from being a very good team. The last thing we need is them to continue to draft high. Enough is enough.

I agree, but I would also argue that unless they uncover a TON of character this summer that they didn't know they had, they're going to continue to stink up the basement of the West.

I'm not sure about that. Are they really going to be that much better than Getzlaf-Ryan-Perry? Toews-Kane-Hossa? Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Franzen?

Yes, they're 1st overall picks, but they're not three Ovechkins. They're not three Crosbys. They're not even three Tavareses, in my opinion. If the time to stop judging these players by their draft position hasn't come yet, then it has to be soon. Crosby scored his highest point total for a season in his sophomore year. Ovechkin in his third. If they aren't generational players like these, then why should we be more worried about them than the top lines of the other great teams in the West?

Who cares, it takes more than one "1b" line and no defence with half-meh goaltending to get anywhere... and I doubt Edmonton will find the space under the new cap to find all those pieces.

This needs more love.

As always, cheering for a win. Really hoping we lose both of these though, I can't deal with a summer full of Oiler fans rubbing in our faces how good their tank is.
