Hire Brian Burke?

I am both a fan of the leafs and the flames and think that the Flames should explore a potential GM change and i think that Brian Burke is exactly what the flames need. I'm starting to question if Feaster even watches the games. What do you fellow flames fans think?

Yes but this mess isn't all Feaster's fault. As much as I want him gone he had little to work with. The owners mandated he try to win so he couldn't sell off assets. Sutter had handed out 1000 NTC/NMC so he has a limited market with every player. He also had to shed salary from the Jokinen Kotalik debacle. All of this and he only had a mediocre team to start with. I liked his signings so far and his drafting but I don't think he is the guy to be doing the selling of assets. I say bring in Burke but keep Feaster on if possible.

I've been saying it for a couple years now, but Ron Hextall would be a great option.... 7 years as the assistant GM and Player Development in LA.

I wouldn't mind Burke. I think he learned not to trade picks with the Kessel move. Anything is better than our current idiot GM.

I love Brian Burke, but in a "someone else's drunk uncle" way. I wouldn't want him being our drunk dad. Plus he'd hire Uncle Wilson to be the coach.

Burke got Gardiner+Lupul for Beauchemin (I know it was a cap move) and a 1st I believe plus Joe Colborne plus something else for friggin Kaberle. I dunno if he or Nonis made the moves but come on.

Burke wouldn't join a franchise were the owners (Edwards) can't stop meddling with how things are run. When he joined the Leafs, he made sure to clarify the level of autonomy he would receive - his contract stipulated he wouldn't answer to anyone except Richard Peddie (the CEO) and no one was allowed to dictate the moves he wished to make.

But anybody would be better than Jay "what's negotiate mean" Feaster.

I see this playing out one of three ways:

1. Can Feaster in the off-season and replace him with Burke.

2. Bump Ken King in the off-season to some new position which puts him in charge of the Hitmen, Roughnecks, Stamps, and Flames. Hire Burke as a hands on hockey president.

3. Same as #2, but can Feaster and promote Weisbrod to GM.

Leafs fan here and I come in peace (just wanted to see what you thought the value of Kippi was until I saw this thread).

Burke is the reason the Leafs are in 6th place right now. He is the reason we have our best forward (drafted Kadri) and our best defenceman (traded Ian White for Phaneuf).

Of course he is judged mostly on the Kessel trade but the main reason for the failure of that trade was that he overestimated Toskala. If performed at least as well as a NHL back up goalie, the leafs would not have finished 2nd last that year (which led to the Bs drafting Seguin).

The Leafs are currently one of the youngest teams and will only be better in the next couple of years. Also our cap situation is perfect, as we have more than enough room this offseason even with the cap going down.

All this is thanks to Burke.

I will offer my theory that there are only a handful of truly good GMs in the league. The rest are who-you-know fringe hockey people who may or may not gain years if experience and become good, and bizarre right-place-at-right-time people like Feaster.
