Calgary Flames; Can and will?

I have to ask something.

Will the Flames trade down to the cap floor? This season is a dumpster fire and should be for a while. They still have Cammy, Kipper, and Wideman. They should not be part of the future. All the Flames have to spend is 44M. They have 60M in commitments. Dumping Wideman, Cammy, and Kipper should put the Flames at 50 M still a bit over. They are a Canadian game but they still should be considered a small market team.

Now, CAN the Flames and Feaster trade for more 1sts? What is the record for most 1st in one yr held by a single team?

The Flames reserve list is at 48. Maybe the reason for not getting contract players is because of this list. Iggy was #50, J-BO #49

Maybe Feaster knows what he's doing...

I can't see anyone having interest in Wideman

40M next year in Cap, and that's inflated as Kiprusoff is 1.5M salary. Got to keep someone.

Wideman can possibly grab a late 2nd in this market (his contract maybe to big an issue though)
Giordano can likely get a late 1st round pick, noticeably higher value than Regehr or Murray
Babchuk could get a Leopold return
Tanguay/Cammaleri/Glencross could grab some picks, Cammaleri being the only one with a chance at a potential 1st round pick imo.

So with those names possibly moving then I don't think dropping to the cap floor is out of the question.

Glencross would bring in a 1st, no question. Great contract, leading the team in goals. Doubt he is moved, though.

Gio isn't going anywhere. Feaster basically said after the J Bo trade we have Gio signed long term. Meaning he tends to keep him.

Babchuk will get nothing. And I think Glencross would have the most value out of the three forwards you listed.

I'm sorry this is ridiculous..

GlenX has the most value out of all those players mentioned.

&

We would be lucky to get a 7th for Babchuck.

1st & Bartkowski most likely gets it done. You know Feaster and them owski's.

No chance Tanguay gets a 1st after the Iginla and Bowmeester deals. Honestly I see 2nd + prospect or 2nd + 3rd. Similar returns for Cammy and Stajan if Calgary eats some salary.

this year: even with jbo and iggy gone, projected to hit 60M. They can afford to trade 3-4 more big-salaried players and still hit the cap floor this season. This is because most of the cap hit has already been incurred (eg jbo and iggy count for a combined 9.7M this season even though now traded).

next year: 40.5M committed at the moment with a floor of 44M. Add backlund 1-2M, Baertschi 925k, butler 1-2M. They probably cant afford to trade more than 2 of the big-salary guys as there arent that many high-salaried UFA pieces out there this summer. Or they could bring on a cap dump from another team.

Would the Bruins give

Koko, 1st rounder, Bartowski( cause of the owski factor)

Looks like this is full rebuild. Seems like the most solid pieces are prospects and picks.

Who is the future core of this team?

Baertschi
Gaudreau
Wotherspoon
Giordano

?

How far away is your core away from their peak?
What are the biggest needs?

Lots more picks could be had, if not now then maybe in the offseason - maybe you'll have another GM making trades and signings by then...
