I'd love to see another GM come in and takeover, but I'm not sure Burke is the answer either.

Hire Burke, any other respectable GM or maybe lets get a new franchise here? I'm sick and tired of our upper management, owners included.

I'd love to get someone like Jim Nill take over the GM duties here, but that's not likely to happen.

Leafs fan here, this is my honest opinion on whether or not you guys should hire Burke.

First off, I would say Burke would be an ideal guy for you guys as a GM when you look around around the league and there isn't any current GM of his calibre that's left to hire.

Secondly, despite what you may all think, since the Kessel trade, every trade that Burke made has been insanely good trade for us, look at Phaneuf(he is been awesome and playing very well), Lupul, Gardiner, etc.

Thirdly, he will clean out the garbage for you guys while bringing in the young asset and better upgrade. See the Jason Blake + Toskala for Giguere trade.

Fourthtly, the consesus that he throws away draft picks is completely false and totally blown out of proprtions because Burke got us a 1st round draft pick in a Kaberle as well as a 2nd round(which we traded for a need in Liles) and Colborne. He also netted a 1st + 3rd rounder for Versteeg 2 years ago.

Burke would be the best thing that had happened to you since Igy.

Lets look what Burke did in 4yrs, we had virtually nothing left and now we have...

3x PPG guys Lupul Kessel Kadri (All Burke)
.50-.75 PPG guys Grabo Kulemin Macarthur Frattin JVR McClement Dion Bozak

Komarov: Best checker in the league
Mc: One of the best PK specialists
Orr, Mclaren two of the best fighters

Reimer

We are still a little weak on D but we have prospects Percy (1st) Finn (1st that went 2nd) Rielly (1st) and a bunch of decent forwards if you just look it up, our young are doing great.

It's honestly a no brainer, he got fired for keeping Wilson and extending him like a dummy but he brought in the playoff team we have now.

I still think the Flames missed out on John Davidson
Ken King should have been moved to a different position and Davidson brought in to try and right this ship over the long haul like he did with St. Louis and like he is currently doing with Columbus (although not sure how much credit he can take for that).
Local guy who grew up here comes home to try and save the Flames franchise
Would have been a good PR move at least to help with this sad team

Anyone complaining about Burke giving up 2 picks for Kessel should look at our own Idiot Gm who almost gave away a top 3 pick, and a 3rd rounder for nothing (ROR fiasco).

Leaf fan here as well, I loved Burke, yeah he talked too much but I think he learned from the error of his ways and after this deadline your team is almost a blank slate and he could make you guys into a contender again he did it with every team he was a GM for. He might not do it smoothly, or be very subtle but he does get it done.

You guys will get a really good player at this years draft, and have a few good players coming up to build on. But I hope you guys are patient it will probably be 3 or 4 years and it was the most painful thing with the leafs sucking D for almost a decade lol. Wishing you guys the best since you are in the West and I can't stand the Oilers for just winning the lottery every year and still being catastrophically bad. Or the Canucks for the riot/big sandy vag of a team.

Or you could do us all a favour and hire Glenn Healy so we don't have to endure him on HNIC any longer.

He's one of the best trading GMs in the league. Which, if anything, would facilitate a nice change of pace.

Lots of bad moves

What is this? I don't even...? While I appreciate the use of statistical analysis, this is probably the worst spreadsheet I have ever seen. Totally opaque with no explanation. It's probably setup terribly but it's so indecipherable I can't even tell. Before you call me out for not being able to figure it out, I have spent significant time using SPSS, Minitab and excel at work and this spreadsheet still makes no sense.

With regards to Burke, I think the leafs current success can largely attributed to his ability to stock the team with prospects and young impact pieces through free agency and good trading. Just look at the team depth chart before and after his tenure and you'll see the difference. That being said, I don't think he'd be a great fit for Calgary. He's not particularly patient and likes to make big trades (which can be good, in the case of gardiner and lupul, or bad, in the case of Kessel), which isn't inherently bad, but in the case of a rebuilding team I think you'd be better off with a steady, patient hand. At the end of the day he'd still be way better than feaster though, at least he can win a deal.
