LeClair to have back surgery.

I'm not a VIP at cbs sportsline but there is a mention of how he is contemplating another back surgery. If John goes through with this it's safe to say that his career could quite posibly end. This surgery will sideline him even longer, not to mention he's out of shape from the lockout. Hitch was right about one thing....the past injuries are finally catching up with some of the veterans.

LeClair surgery set to help ailing back.

EDIT: Just got a free-membership. It says something to the effect of...John has already had to back operations, and another clean up operation to take care of an infection. This new procedure could end up strengthening his back and improve his standings with the organization. He wants to stay here and he wants to play.

If he wants to stay here, then its time to take a paycut.

Johnny's gonna retire. And when he does, they better host number 10 to the rafters. He did everything that was ever asked of him by the Flyers organization and not once did you hear him ***** or complain about things.

If Johnny never hurt his back, he probably would have remained a 40 goal scorer, but I'm also willing to be the loss of Lindros hurt him more than it helped him.

I don't know. I'm a huge Leclair fan (hence the nick) and I really hope that he does finally decide to hang them up. Maybe they'll offer him a position in the front office if he does retire as well.

I think I share your sentiment, FF, but I don't think they're going to retire his number. That's just a guess.

As for his contract, it doesn't expire until next summer, and I will be surprised if he retires unless he can't walk. I would like to think the organization would do everything it could to get out from under his contract, simply from a business standpoint, but they may have to just bite the bullet. After all, they offered the contract to John.

I've enjoyed watching LeClair, but no chance does he get his jersey retired. He's not a top all-time Flyer.

yeah, I don't think they retire LeClairs jersey either. he was a great player for the Flyers no doubt but he's not at that level.

as far as him playing for the Flyers next year if there's a season, I think he and Amonte get bought out along with a farewell handshake. IMO, it's time to move in a new direction, even if he takes a paycut...which I don't think he would do anyway.

Until #27 is retired, Johnny can get in line.

Tim Kerr had more goals for the Flyers than LeClair did and his jersey isn't retired either.

What are the chances that he makes it into the hhof? His past accomplishments make for a pretty strong case.

It's pretty sad when someone can score 150+ goals in three consecutive goals, lead team-USA in goals to it's gold medal, be named to the NHL all-star first team on two separate occasions, and win a Stanley Cup and still fall short. And you know that there will be a someone that gets a bogus nomination.

I'd put #27 in the lead considering Leach and Hextall wore it.

This is from Kevin Paul Dupont's Boston Globe column on April 17:

"Former University of Vermont star John LeClair is headed for a third back operation over the summer. Ideally, it will give him added strength, and perhaps restore some of his lost scoring pop. When the '04-05 season was a possibility, the Flyers were contemplating buying out the last two years of his deal, what would have amounted to a $12 million writeoff (against his guarantee of $18 million). If '05-06 is a go, and LeClair is healthy, the Flyers would have their option to buy him out at $6 million or let him play for $9 million "
