NHL Trade Deadline Extravaganza (Hawks Stand Pat with Handzus)

Since the trade deadline is tomorrow, I figured I'd create a thread to organize all the rumors and trade news.

That was from a few days ago. With the acquisition of Handzus, I doubt the Hawks are in on another center. With known interest in Visnovski before his extension, Streit, Yandle (rumored), and Liles (also rumored), it seems as though the Hawks are looking for another PMD that has some offensive upside.

I also read on Twitter from a beat writer that the Hawks showed interest in Ryan Clowe. It doesn't appear they are in on it as seriously as the likes of the Habs and Bruins.

However, I remember what NFS said sometime shortly ago. It was perfect. The Hawks don't ever get anyone that's rumored. Every acquisition from the Hawks comes out of left field. The only one I remember that didn't come out of nowhere was Oduya, but that was mostly logical fan presumption and idea. Hossa, Kopecky, Johnsson, Frolik, Campoli, Morrison, Handzus, etc. came out of left field.

I think the Hawks are looking for a defenseman that can accompany Leddy on the PP and carry the puck in the zone and a left winger since the center market is thin. It's a seller's market, and the best center available (Roy) will be in our division next year. It'll take stupid commitment. I wish Ribiero was available.

I am guessing we are going to be getting low level picks to replace some of what we have lost.

Listen, if you hear the Hawks are involved with someone, they aren't. Leaks don't happen with Bowman. If the Visnovsky stuff is true, sounds like they want someone that can QB the power play.

I'm guessing Stalberg goes, and I'm guessing some grit comes back, and hopefully Streit.

Stan said yesterday he's not trading a roster player.

Bowman is the most predictable GM in the league. We could make a list of the 3 or 4 worst guys on each team, put it all together, and you have your trade targets.

Told the Dallas Stars have decided to trade Jaromir Jagr. My sense is Boston leads the list of front-runners

This is why i was upset about the Nielsen rumor. As soon as a rumor surfaces you know its not true. Everyone was talking about Bozak and Ribeiro but nobody was talking about Nielsen that much. I secretly expected Nielsen to be honest

I like Jagr but he really wore down last year and was terrible in the NJD series

Fearless prediction: Hawks get Jagr

Then this board talks about how he's old/slow/injury prone and doesn't add grit or win faceoffs.

Seems fine this year, the short season suits him.

But like MAB, where would he play?

Saad-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Bolland-Kane
Bickell-Shaw-Stalberg
Kruger-Hanzal-Frolik

The only top 6 player he'd bump down is Saad and it would be so unfair to that kid. Not to mention, Jagr is a RW no? Oh! And Jagr is probably too slow for this team IMHO

Although the Hawks do have the picks + Forward Prospect package to get him

Yeah, it would be an MAB type move, Jagr would kind of move around and play a lot on the PP. I'd love to see it, but yeah, we do have bigger needs. At the end of the day though, I'll take something like this over nothing.

Except the 2nd half of a normal season coincides with the playoffs this year. He had 34 points and was a +8 pre all star game last year, 20 points and a -3 post.

Jagr would be a luxury and won't come cheap in a trade. He wouldn't guarantee us a Cup.

I think Bowman really wants to add a PMD that can run a PP when Kane does not do it.

Yeah, I mean, I don't know what it would take to keep him fresh, but I'd like to think we could on this team given our depth.

I'm not 100% against it. I just don't know where he plays, what role he has. He's not taking Kane or Hossa off of RW. Having him on the 3rd or 4th line doesn't make sense.
