I'm still holding out hope that that's part of a sign and trade scheme, but I know that's too much to hope for.

Mike Santorelli (R) Centre waived by Florida. Would he be a good pick up? He always seems to have a good game against the Capitals.

IMO no. Classic Caps killer who sucks against everybody else.

He does seem to have a Jon Sim-like elevation of his game against the Caps.

Wonder what happened with that guy. He was a 20-20-40 guy as a 24 year-old 2-3C two seasons ago.

If there was more roster room, I'd be all about giving him a shot.

But the whole killing the Caps and sucking against everybody else makes him a perfect fit in the Caps locker room. Brooks Laich would jump in front of a train for players like that.

I changed my mind about Forsberg. Caps have had him for a year and they didn't know what he would turn up. Many teams also skipped on Forsberg.. He is a point per game player in the Swedish league... Martin Erat can become a 70-80 point player on the 1st line left wing with the PP the Caps have. The Caps have addressed needs and I'm stoked about this trade.

So, lines going forward for this season?

Johansson - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Erat - Ribeiro - Brouwer
Chimera - Laich - Ward
Volpatti - Hendricks - Beagle

vs.

Erat - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Laich - Ribeiro - Brouwer
Chimera/Johansson - Johansson/Perreault - Ward
Volpatti/Chimera - Hendricks - Beagle

Shuffle around the bottom lines a bit when Fehr gets back (knocking Volpatti out).

In the first configuration, I think I might actually go with Perreault at 3C and Laich at 3LW. Obviously it doesn't fit if it's supposed to be a shutdown line, but Oates hasn't shown much of a preference for one anyway. I just don't like Laich at center. There does seem to be some chemistry with Johansson on the first line, and he hasn't really fit well anywhere else in the lineup lately, so I guess I'm inclined to leave him there. I'm sure they'll at least try Erat there though.

I like the first one. 90 19 8 has been working and getting laich to improve the 3rd line will be good for depth. Along with Erat improving the second line.

Erat's skill set has a lot of overlap with Johansson's, so it's quite possible that Erat fits in that role as well. If they're not rolling the 3rd line as a shutdown line, they could potentially try Johansson at 3C (still like him more than Perreault). If you keep both Johansson and Perreault in the line-up (not something I particularly want), you could force Volpatti to the bench before Fehr returns, though (and without bringing Wolski back).

I think I prefer Laich at center. He's never produced great at even strength, whether at LW or center. Might as well get the chance to build a shutdown line and still exploit his PP skill.

That being said, I'm bracing for a Johansson-Perreault-Wolski 3rd line.

Can we scratch Chimera for a game?

I assume not but we added a LW and already have two collecting dust - Volpatti and poor ole Woitek.

While it will probably be MP pushed to the bench and Laich moved to center, maybe Chimera Laich Ward can come to life like 16 months ago. Which was really just Chimera with a wild hare so... I am not terribly optimistic as yet.

I do want to see Erat tried on 1 and 2.

A different look

Johansson - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Erat - Ribeiro - Brouwer
Laich - MP - Ward
Volpatti - Hendricks - Beagle

You guys watch Hillen even? Since coming back he's been as good as Alzner. I'm happy for him.
