My Canucks fan coworkers are loving the Roy deal.

Connauton was a B level prospect at best who had been running in place in their org for a couple years now, and there wasn't a realistic chance of him making their team anytime soon.

They're just glad they didn't give up anyone of value.

My opinion as a whole though is get another top 4 d-man regardless of what type they are. Having another top 4 in this defensive corps is what we need. Take minutes away from everyone and balance things out better. Having a 3rd pairing that has a top 4 d-man on it would go a long way for this club.
What about Whitney+ conditional 2nd (if Streit resigns in Edmonton) to NYI for Streit?

NYI get assets for Streit, while not really 'selling' while they're in the playoff push.

Oil get an upgrade on Whitney, and would then have a good shot at resigning him.

Low risk, pretty high reward IMO.

Anytime you are in a position to add a 60 point rental player for a 2nd and B level prospect you have to be happy. This might not put them over the edge to win the cup, but it might put them at a better chance to get that division and an easier 1st round matchup.

Interesting trade, I liked what I saw of Connauton in the prospects tournaments but he hasn't made the club full time yet. Roy is a decent player but he isn't the same player that he was in Buffalo 3-4 years ago.

Here is what I want:

Hall Nugent-Hopkins Eberle
Paajarvi Gagner Jagr
Brouwer Horcoff Yakupov
Brown Smyth Petrell

I explained in a thread the other day why I think Jagr makes so much sense for this team, so I will not get into it here. Brouwer would be some capable size on the third. I am not sure how Tambellini would go about acquiring both Jagr and Brouwer, but I would like to see him do it.

Dallas throwing in the towel really changes things up. Money could be an issue so who knows who comes available now.

I'd think all those pieces could be available from the Oilers point of view. It would however suck to lose both the guys coming in, but if we could at least keep Streit I'd do those trades in a heartbeat.

It's all or nothing for the Nucks at this point. Kesler's still banged up, and the sedins aren't getting any younger.

I'd really love to be able to buy an Oilers no.68 Jagr jersey, but I dunno, I'm kinda on the fence about making a move for him.

Glencross is someone I'd push for too, but I think Feaster and the Flames org in general are too embarrassed to deal him to us after giving us so much crap about "blowing it up" when they're now doing the exact same thing.

How bad would that suck if they think that they had Iginla and then Jagr and then get neither?

I'd look at adding Torres maybe? And a top 4 dman. Especially with how cheap they are going.

The only piece that stands out is Hartikainen and the jury is still out on him. 2nd round picks and later are a lottery ticket, why not trade them for some immediate, veteran presence when we are 1 point out of the playoffs. Not to mention, getting them now, gives us a leg up on re-signing them, as they probably know the Oilers are not likely wanting a strict rental and would like to sign them for next year.

The more I think about it, the more I think it's better just to stand pat, unless there is a move that impacts the team in the short term and long term (ie: Hemsky out for a decent d-man who the Oilers can retain).

I would offer Omark + 2nd for Glencross though.
