NHL Trade Deadline: Ten Tempting Prospects

A Finn, a Slovak, a Czech, a couple of Americans, a Swede, a Russian and a few Canadians walk into a sports bar...How many changed postal codes?

THW presents: NHL Trade Deadline: Ten Tempting Prospects (that may be dealt on or before April 3rd).

Quote:
Picks and prospects will prove to be valuable commodities leading up to the NHL trade deadline. GMs of teams that emerge as buyers (seemingly the vast majority of the league) might have to dangle key assets to land the perceived difference making players they desire in their quest to hoist hockey’s Holy Grail.

Hidden storylines:
- Koko, take 2
- 4 Canadian teams mentioned
- 3 goalies mentioned

FYI: Former Canucks prospect (now a Dallas Star in Derek Roy trade) was originally in the TOP 10, but was edited out just prior to going live.

It can't be just 2nd rnders involved in every transaction, can it?

Will tomorrow be a snoozefest or will drafted assets change assets?

Some of the prospects hinted as potential trade bait for the right return:
See article for full break down:

- Habs Sebastian Collberg
- Leafs Garret Sparks
- Sens Lehner (or more likely Bishop)
- Jets Scott Kosmachuk
- Oilers Martin Gernat

For an explanation, embedded Tweets and more discussion about things like the trend of trading picks, read the full article here.

Where are people getting this delusion that Detroit wants a puck-moving defender...

That's not even close to our problem on defense...

The correct terminology then? Minute-munching two-way steady presence?

Physical RH, defensive Dman is more needed than another puck mover.

Wouldn't mind Karlsson though he doesn't fit that bill .

No doubt - makes sense!

Corey Sarich fit the bill, or someone who's going eat up a chunk of ice time?

The article says Sparks would likely go the other way in a goalie trade for Toronto... I would imagine it would be Scrivens.. not Sparks.

If we trade for a goalie, we would have 3 NHL goalies. Also if a team trades away a goalie, they would probably need an NHL goalie in return. And a 26 year old who dominated the AHL and has a 0.918 save % in his first NHL season would be of interest I'm sure.

Just going by age structure, if we move Sparks, we'd have no goalie prospects under the age of 23 (almost 24 actually, Owuya is 24 in July) in the organization. Which wouldn't be a good thing.

Preferably top 4D. Top pairing guys aren't really available for the price that Holland is willing to go with.

And young guy, somewhat. Not a rental at least. Re-tooling team, not legit cup contender.

Holland has basically stated as much.

Which is why it doesn't make much sense that Wings seem to be standing pat this deadline. Get some picks for washed up vets, let the kids play. Bc they are arguably better already.

I am curious as to why the Habs is dangling S Collberg out there?

If they didn't want him, why didn't they just trade the pick away?

Not necessarily dangling him; he would garner serious interest and if they attempt to land a true difference maker, he would get it done. He's an outstanding prospect, so keeping him in the fold wouldn't be the worse thing.

Strong points - depending on where the goalie comes from, that team may theoretically dictate the return.

Appears to be moot point anyhow now. Appreciate the comment and rationale.

I don't see the wings moving any of those prospects I would take them off the list.

I can't see Gernat being dangled out there by the Oilers. He was a steal in the Draft and has progressed nicely since. Marincin and himself would be a nice future pairing

Sometimes you have to give to receive...The Twin Tower Martins do make for intriguing future pairing.
