Are you really comparing Derek Roy with Mika Noronen or Keith Carney?

Roy is a playmaker, I really think the canucks want to try kesler on wing.

Hate that he is a rental, but maybe he will re-sign here.

Gillis is a ****ing genius. Connauton + 2nd for Roy? all the way to the bank.

Kudos to GMMG for renting a bona fide top 6 centerman for a low price and gets to try before buy.

FYI the Roy deal does not rule Vancouver out of the Ryane Clowe mix ...

Yeah, and Gaustad is barely that.

I could definitely see the team dump Booth in order to keep Roy. They have some depth on the wings in their prospects but nothing beyond Schroeder on the immediate horizon.

its a steal if we resign him. otherwise its about fair for remaining regular season + whatever we do in the playoffs (knock on wood) based on the market so far...

And yea, I rather have JAgr than clowe.. much more.

Marginally productive player? Roy has 22 points in 30 games this season playing on a bad Stars team. He can play tough minutes and do well. He's had some bad luck putting the puck in the net but that's about it. He's a 60 point guy at his worst.

Cool.

This is not going to turn out well...and yes, I realize many of you have a different opinion at the moment. All I can say is I watched many of you wax exuberant over some of Nonis's deadline deals, too. And we all know how those turned out...
Aging? He's 29...

PPg player in 35 games 2 years ago, down year last year and on pace for over 60 again this season. He's shooting half his career average right now at 6% - that's not a sustainable % for him...

Cody Hodgson has been replaced.

Thanks for the memories Booth. Looks like they don't want him here next year.

Man, you're out to lunch. Seriously. Roy is a 60+ point 2nd line center who can take mid 40's offensive zone starts and still progresses the puck up ice. He's a career 12% shooter. He's still in his prime. He skates well. He's put up 80+ points in the league before. He's good enough defensively that you could put him with Raymond and Hansen and have him play a defensive role, but he's versatile enough to play on either of your PP units or force Kesler to the wing when the team needs offense.

I would guess that the odds of a 2nd round pick returning a player as good as Roy are probably as low as 5%? The odds of even getting a guy who has a modest NHL career are only about 25% that late in the draft...

Keith Carney was a solid #4 *defensive* defender even at the time we got him. Problem was, he wasn't the kind of defenseman we needed at the time (we needed somebody to help with the offensive with Jovo out for an unknown period of time) - especially consider the type of coach we had behind the bench.

*THAT* was Nonis' fatal mistake.

Depends on whom we get. If it's someone like Pominville or Vanek....

We must acquire all the Sabres!

They can dump/trade Booth, Ballard and Luongo if need be.

How is this a hockey trade Mr. Gillis? Not that I'm against the trade, but I can't see this being more than a pure rental situation.
