It's OK but not a solution. The deal for Kassian last year and the excitement over Booth clearly indicates that what Van needs is not Mason Raymond style small quick forwards but rather bigger stronger power forwards who can produce.
This now allows the Canucks to save face on luongo. Deal him for picks .
Desl/buyout Ballard and re sign Roy
Great point, and don't think enough people are realizing this. By solving the "we need a player NOW" portion of the Luongo trade with this deal, Gillis expands his range of acceptable returns to include non-player assets, like picks and prospects. Likely means Luongo stays until the draft I would think, but I can't help but think this trade helps in the long run ...
Ah...so now we have surgeries thrown into the "getting old" mix, too, eh? That might explain why is PIMs are down so much - a guy shying away from contact would naturally have fewer PIMs.
Anyway, I hope it works out.
Will be interesting to see how long until Gillis tries to extend him, and for how much.
Why don't you watch the guy play before making all sorts of silly sounding speculations? It's abundantly clear you haven't watched any of Roy this year but you're happy to throw around all sorts of paranoid reasons for why he was acquired.
I think Connauton has more value than you guys are giving credit, but the prospects behind him (Corrado specifically) and the NHL blue line in front of him ultimately made him redundant. He had nowhere to go but down or left.
