As long as 2nd does not turn to a 1st it's a good deal.

If Boston can re-sign Jagr for another year, it's a very good deal.

If Malkin were to sign a one-year deal at 41, bring interest in the signing franchise but not quite do enough to get that team into the playoffs and were to then be traded at the deadline for a 1st or 2nd round pick...

yes. It would be a good trade for both parties.

Obviously I meant consolation prize, not constellation prize.

And I just meant that they tried and missed out on Iginla so the next player they would get would be their consolation prize. It had nothing to do with the quality of the players.

I called this after the Iginla trade to Pittsburgh. It seemed like a perfect response move for the Bruins. A Pens/Bruins playoff series would be epic and great for hockey if the lineups are healthy by the time they meet.

Well, no. That Dallas got something for nothing doesn't change that Chiarelli got something for little.

Why do people keep saying overpayment? They gave up alot less than they were gonna give up for Iginla and got a guy who is playing better. Im guessing neither re-sign so age doesnt matter.

That. Is. Awesome!

Imagine being able to tell Lucic back then that he would be playing on a line with Jagr?

Great deal for Dallas all things considered. Turned a FA signing last year into a potential 1st, decent prospect, and so-so prospect; could easily get similar value that Calgary got with Iginla. Bruins also pick up a still awesome player.

Why is it being reported as a conditional 2nd? Aren't conditional picks usually reported with the better, lower (closer to 1) option first. As in this is a conditional first?

People forget about Kevin Stevens, he was such a beast in those years.

A 2nd round pick that could very well turn into a 1st round pick, a solid prospect, and a mid level prospect is a fairly steep price to pay for Jagr as a rental player.

But again, I understand the rationale from Chia's perspective. Now is the time to splurge for the Bruins.

If Boston makes it to the Eastern Conference Finals, the 2nd round pick becomes a 1st round pick, and Boston adds an additional 5th round pick.

There's no "solid" prospect being dealt, though.

MacDermid is someone who was given an opportunity to make the team this year, and wasn't able to beat out the corpse of Jay Pandolfo. Payne, if absolutely everything goes right, will be a third line player. Someone you could get as a FA in the offseason because there's nothing special about him and there's probably a 200 players in this NHL just like him.

The pick is the only thing of value, and if it's a late first it will mean the Bruins made it at least to the ECF and will be completely worth it.

Macdermid is a 4th line grinder at most, probably will be an AHL lifer. Payne might not be able to even transfer his game to pro. His ceiling is probably a very good 4th.

I'm insecure because I post on a message board...and then you do the same...irony.

You might have hated the Iggy deal, but something tells me that you aren't representative of the entire Bruin fan base on HF. In fact, I've got a good hunch I'm right.

As far as Jagr being better? At what exactly? Scoring? Possibly. Skills? Definitely. Overall? Debatable. I would say that your GM probably agrees since Jags was the second choice and he offered up much more for Iggy wouldn't you agree?

As a goal scorer, yes.

As a physical presence and a leader, no.

Boston needed offense and goal scoring and Pittsburgh needed a physical player who can also score and provide veteran leadership. Both team got what they needed. Everyone wins and makes a potential series between then 2 teams that much more fun.
