Is it possible that the iginla trade really kick started some of the bigger trades that we are seeing now? Now that the big name is off the table, other teams are scrambling to add some pieces before other teams snatch them up?
Last season, there were 35 trades in the month preceding the trade deadline. The year before, there were 43; the year before that, there were 53.
The Jagr trade gets us to 24 since March 2. Historically speaking, we're looking at at least another 20 moves before the deadline. I'd even wager that some teams are holding off until tonight's games are over, since the standings are so closely packed.
Just remember this when us Canadians tell you Americans that you just don't understand how much we love hockey.
Hey I've taken days off for the Trade Deadline before. More so now that I have decided to go back to school than when I worked a "real job", but it's happened.
Off topic w/r/t the Trade Deadline, but back in 2008 the Predators were playing a game that if they won would clinch a playoff spot for them, depending on the outcome of the late game that night. Since I had to be up at 4:30am to go to work, I knew I wouldn't be staying up late... unless...
So I told my boss, who was a sports fan but not a hockey fan, what was up. He said, "I'll tell you what. If the Preds lose you can have tomorrow off, that way you can get drunk to forget about it."
