If the Rangers were to make the playoffs this year apart from the goaltending they would look pretty much like the Florida Panthers did last year. Very little toughness--getting knocked around. The way I see this is as a gamble--because there's still an 'if' we'll make the playoffs and still an 'if' that's even worthwhile in my mind because Clowe or no I don't see this year's team as a potential contender in any way. Maybe the best thing to do is to sell and not to buy. But as long as we're talking about the Rangers and there's any chance at all they're going to go for it. In any case the prospect of going into the post season with little to no bottom line depth and very little toughness would not it would seem to me to be a pleasant viewing experience. Under these circumstance I understand the move--whether it will be worth it or not remains to be seen.

McBain was paired with McDonagh when RM was at Wisconsin as a freshman

Only if they resign him, or at least have plans to try to do so. If they gave up the picks to just watch him walk, I'm not gonna be a terribly happy camper.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. Clowe is likely going to be everything that they thought Pyatt would be. He was already hardly relevant with his play, now he's a little further out there.

That makes this deal even better. Good move by Glen. Hopefully, Pyatt and Asham are headed elsewhere along with Gilroy. Need to shore up the back end, or get Staal back, and things look better for the NYR.

Depends if we trade Gaborik earlier than expected and take on either Streit or Dan Boyle salary. Gaborik wouldn't be traded to the Islanders of course.

Hopefully not Boyle.

Only names that make sense to me though, since Gaborik apparently has no value in this market.

I'll sign up for that every day, all day.
i agree. if you look at the %'s of 2nd rounders making the nhl its a good move.

And if kypers tweet is true boyle/pyatt are gone.

Wait and see who they use the picks we traded on. Could be a dud, could be a gem. We'll never have a chance to make that pick now though.

From over 2,000 players selected in the third round and beyond during 1990s, just 261 made it as NHL career players. That's about 12 percent."

So, roughly 25% of those drafted in the 2nd round are career NHL (200 games or more) players. 12% of those in the 3rd.
Hahaha, you gotta love this kind of mentality.

Why draft at all then with these kind of odds, you are better off trading ever one of them according to that mentality.

The rationalizations that go on here just to say something good about 'my team'. It's FANatical.

Can't trade Boyle without getting a center back IMO.

What would Carolina want for McBain?

Considering what we have to offer at this point, I can't see us being good partners.

Pyatt+Gilroy+5th?

I have no idea.

Staal most likely won't be back for the rest of this season.

Have you seen what other, much better, players have gone for? Pyatt for McBain is not completely unthinkable.

Sure, but you can't have everything. Clowe is hard to play against at least, which is a quality this team sorely lacks, and he's here now - not maybe here 3 years down the line like that second round pick would likely be. I think NYR has decent depth in terms of prospects and I'm almost certain they'll have a first by the time draft day rolls around.

25% chance to draft an Anisimov, Stepan, or Lindberg. What are the percentages of Clowe out scoring the first two this season?

Okay, just so everyone's clear, we only have one 2nd round pick, our own. Where this discussion of SJ's 2nd comes in is, well, unclear.

Here's what we have in 2013

2 Rangers
3 Rangers
3 Blue Jackets - Conditionally
3 Panthers
3 Predators
4 Rangers
6 Rangers

Mike Sauer, Artem Anisimov, Derek Stepan, Christian Thomas, Boo Nieves.... The Rangers have more success with their 2nds then their 1sts, all those numbers aside.

If we still had our 1st I could deal with this better, but this really sucks for a team that frankly isn't going anywhere.

LOL, what are you on about? Rationalizing? You're the one rationalizing. Clowe = proven commodity. Draft picks = hoping for the best drafting a young player, especially past the 1st round. You have NO IDEA what a 17 year old will amount to that you've drafted in the 2nd round, more than likely, without investing YEARS into producing that player.
