Regehr trade talk is interesting. Sabres haven't been offered anything yet worthy of seeking clearance from the vet D-man

"Fair for who? Certainly not LA"

IDK...Murray got two 2013 2nd rders, so a 2014 1st doesn't seem too far off since Regehr is a better d-man. OTOH, two 2nds for Murray seemed a bit high to start with.

Time to deal Ott is now

I love him, you likely do too. That being said is it likely his value is ever higher than right now?

Will he be effective down in a year or two? Not likely, at least not at this level.

He can likely fetch a big return, perhaps far more than we got for Gaustad.

The time for painful moves is now.

Obviously if someone is willing to overpay I'll move him.

His value might actually be higher next season due to it being his contract year, but I'm sure he'd get a nice return if moving him were desirable. Personally I'd keep him because he's a good guy to have on the team whether it's rebuilding (positive example) or pushing for a playoff spot.

Too many people calling him uh untouchable, can't be the mindset.

That being said if we can get a blue chip prospect I'd move him

If some team is offering a 1st+very good prospect or a top 4 dman I would trade him.Our backend is extremely lacking with legit top 4 dmen.If I'm trading Ott I want to fill that need and of course require a 1st round pick in any offer for him.I wouldn't trade him unless atleast one was coming back.I also don't think I would trade Ott for just a 1st round pick, unless it was top 10 but no bottom team is going to trade a top 10 pick for Ott because he is only attractive to contending teams.

By no means do we HAVE to move him. Guess its the difference between a quick rebuild and total overhaul.

1st+very good prospect. We have no reason to sell low on Ott so it really isnt a great question

IMO Ott is one of the veteran players we want to keep around during the rebuild.

However..I know he's the type of player that could get a great return at the deadline.

I'd have very mixed feeling if we dealt him.

It should be entertained, I'd also look to sell high on Weber.

It sounds like David Savard and/or maybe John Moore could be expendable in Columbus. What about something like like Stafford for one of the two plus a draft pick?
