...BEST of luck to DD44, please play him, you won't regret it...I think he'll come out and be timid, but it doesn't take him much time to adapt and contribute. Good luck to you guys, i'm now rooting for you in the east.

Huge thanks for being such a loyal DD44 fan, and huge thanks for coming here and giving us such helpful info on DD44.
I really hope he becomes a solid #4-5 dman for us.
Hope it's a win-win...DD44 ends up being very solid for us for now and the next few seasons or more, and you guys get a good 5th Rounder...equivalent to DD44.

Cheers!!

Thanks so much for that report, losingsand!

I find it very encouraging that fans of the Kings are coming here and only have good things to say about the guy. Bergevin made a great trade. He got someone he values greatly - a guy with a great character. It seems like when he adds to the team, he makes sure the guy he adds will be a good lockeroom type. Whiskey is going to be loved here, not only on the ice by the fans, but in the lockeroom by his teammates.

I suggest from now on we refer to Desharnais as dd and Drewiskey as DD.

Don't get overly optimistic and expect Drewiske to be a diamond in the rough or more than he is. He has been around long enough to show what he is, which is nothing more than the many as a "plug the last roster spot" as a fill in or part of the Bulldogs up and down rotations.

I trust Bergevin to be a good judge of talent , especially for depth defensemen.

Welcome to Montreal, Whiskey!! (all the best of luck and health).

2013 Draft Picks:
1st Rnd
2nd Rnd Pick
2nd Rnd Pick
2nd Rnd Pick
3rd Rnd Pick
3rd Rnd Pick

4th Rnd Pick
6th Rnd Pick? (do we still have it?)
7th Rnd Pick? (does it even go this far anymore?!)
I don't think we have a 4th either

Just posted this over on the Kings board. Here are my thoughts after sleeping over the trade.

Very happy with the trade and the fact that it was only a 5th rounder. Here in Montreal we do not have pure game changers but rather a character and TEAM FIRST mentality and look where this got us this year. I am sure this guy will fit seamlessly into the lineup and play right into our system. Good depth move.

We don't have game changers? Maybe you need to look harder.

Alright I retract my statement and will say Gallagher and Subban can be game changers. I stand by my point that this team does not have a superstar and everybody is contributing on the same level.

Everybody is contributing...but not on the same level. No we don't have a superstar but only about 2 NHL teams have them and one of those will miss the playoffs, the other is Pittsburgh.

No superstar? If Subban wins the Norris, will he be a superstar then? He's playing Norris caliber hockey this season, so to me, he is a superstar.

I'd love more nasty hitters on this team, but hitting has no impact on how good a player is defensively.

Amen.

I'd rather have forwards that crush people in corners, then defenseman who worry about hitting first or second.

No, really?

The individual I was replying to was responding to a statement I made to the effect that I was hoping for a more physical presence for a depth move. If that's a crime, I'm guilty as charged.

Well no point reading any further, your insight means very little to me after this piece of wisdom.

It's encouraging that maybe the Habs' pro scouting group knows what they are doing (they were already right about Ryder and Halpern!!).
I think it's reasonable to assume that if Drewiske was playing 19 mins/night instead of O'Byrne, there'd be a LOT more negative talk about Drewiske's play. O'Byrne has been solid for them, and has proven himself so far to be a much more valuable defenseman at the NHL level. Hard to find a lot of internet hate for a guy that very few people on the internet have even seen play.

I still like the pickup for depth - brings an aspect to the third pairing that none of Kaberle, Weber, or even Bouillon can provide, making it a smart move. Can't be tearing down other guys who are actually playing lots of minutes on NHL rosters in all the excitement, though. "Not one Colorado fan" saying positive things about what O'Byrne has brought to their d-corps is also just plain wrong, unless it's one of those "I didn't really look, so I didn't really find anything" situations, or if you're talking about super, super recently, after a bit of bad play and undisciplined penalties saw the Great Bearded Zanon take his spot in the lineup. Leading the team in blocked shots and throwing the second most hits on the team last year earned him a few new fans.

Not to knock the LA fans, but I hearing a lot of "oh, solid, doesn't make many mistakes... you won't really notice him."

Again, not to insult their fans, but there's a lot more to a hockey player than flashy plays. If Drewiski plays solid defensively, he will get recognition here.
