Because a boring, solid Gorges clone is better suited to be our backup defender than the defensive liabilities that are Kaberle and Weber?

Hi Guys,

You are getting a character player who is committed. He doesn't *****. We just didn't have any more room on our D so we needed to move someone. A 5th is good value so I'm not worried on either side. He'll get more minutes and is not prone to stupid mistakes. He grew up on our D so he's pretty responsible and shouldn't disappoint. Glad he is gonna get some playing time now as he rotated well. Bottom pair D man, but has lots of room to grow. You guys will enjoy the pick up. Good Luck in the playoffs.

I hope he's a RD. Does anybody know?

I like this type of depth move before the playoffs. Those are the ones that can't hurt you. Or it is a +, or it is nothing.

I read he's a character/leadership guy. Can't have too many of these come playoffs time. Smart little move.

Wow, he sounds like a real good guy. For what it's worth Kings fans seem to describe him as the "perfect 7th D", and if Diaz is recovering, that's really all we need.
Don't the rosters expand after the TD anyway?

The best part would be if we kept him, brought Erik Nystrom over from Sweden and confused the **** out of everyone.

Who?

I'd rather do no deals at all, than do a weak looking deal like this. The pens and bruins will fear us now! Nope - I'd rather dig into our prospect pool at this point.

And no - this guy is no Halpern. Seems like a nothing move compared to that.

Yeah, but honestly if we can't move Kaberle I'd still use him over Weber.

I know Weber has a great playoff record and is a Bruins killer but his confidence has got to be shot at this point, I can't see his value going anything but down until he gets a new start elsewhere.

We HAVE Gorges, we NEED something else, get it?

I'm not saying Drewiskey is bad, I'm just saying we had more pressing needs on defense, like a big, tough crease clearing defensmen protecting Price against our division rivals.

Calling him a benchwarmer is a bit of an overstatment. Our D was top notch last few seasons and there just wasn't room. Our offense sucked and couldn't score on a drunk chick on prom night after her boyfriend dropped her , but our D was something to be proud of. He fits a good defensive system. He'll suprise you guys. He's not flashy like a Drew Doughty or Nieds or a big PMD. He's a defensive player and is good on the PK.

DD is a total class act and should be a great #6,7, or 8 dman. A solid acquisition for you guys. Very dependable player.

I wouldn't. Kaberle needs to be bubble-wrapped.

don't mind the pickup. Still don't like that he has no experience in playoffs whatsoever. Weird move.

Just to clarify, the only reason he wasn't playing for us is we liked to use 1 puck mover and 1 shutdown guy per pairing. Willie Mitchell took the leap from great defender to elite (I know this is saying a lot but other Kings fans will back me up here) when he came to town. Scuderi was a solid vet who won a cup and played crucial PK time for us. And Greene was a heart and soul guy who was our only really, REALLY physical dman who also blocked shots and PKed for us. Davis just simply wasn't better than any of them and there's no shame in that as all 3 are very good defenseman. It's not like he was in the press box because he was just awful - just a numbers game.

Very solid pickup by MB. Can never have too much depth on defense, especially in the playoffs.
