Appears deadline will pass with #Isles inactive. Were only interested in hockey deals, not rentals, couldn't find a fit. On we go.
And I'm fine with this, Garth is building internally, we are starting to see the payoff and we will be ripe to receive players this off-season (which is the biggest for the Isles in a LONG time)
Am I the only one who's sick of that phrase? "Hockey deals". No one ever used it, and now it's all you hear. It doesn't even capture what they're trying to say. Is a trade for a draft pick or a prospect a basketball deal?
Looks like Gaborik is going to Columbus. Why do other GM's keep helping out Sather?
I like that deal for both sides....
Moore makes someone like MDZ expendable and Rangers were concerned with dumping salary. They found the opportunity and did it. Brassard is whatever and Dorsett is injured. As for Columbus, they add top line talent/scoring. Something they needed for a playoff push. And the parts they moved for him were all expendable.
Back to us. Was really hoping we'd go after a goalie. Glad we avoided Mason and Bishop's cost would've been too steep, but I would've been okay with Griess or Clemmenson. That was my only move I wanted to make. Okay with keeping Streit. This playoff push is too valuable to trade him off now.
Don't forget: the Isles transmit trades to the NHL offices using their 14kbps Konica dialup thermal fax machine (on a shared line with their phone). So long as they initiiated the call before 3pm we could still see a trade announced up till around 5pm.
Hard to see how the Gaborik move does not help teams like the Devils/Isles/Caps for now...long term it may work for the Rags but I've got no problem with the fact they lost an "elite forward" for a grinder with some scoring touch for the final 2 weeks.
