Which is why I am torn on Streit. Seeing the prices paid for some today I wonder what Snow was offered for Streit? I know the Islanders want to make the playoffs and I want them to make it in the worst way but perhaps they could of 'added' by 'subtracting'?

I may be late to the party but, Gaborik just got traded to the Jackets... He was always an islander killer. Good news

The problem is that most of the buyers are in our conference. Hard to let go of a player to a rival.

I hope Streit gets sense slapped into him. We ARE going places and would like to have him come along.

I mean, who needs to score goals when you block shots?

Luongo is a funny guy. Also was interesting to hear Gaborik take a shot at the Rangers when asked why he waived.

If the Isles moved Streit, I don't think they would have gotten anyone that could help the team right now. Its important to make this playoff push.

This is good news for our playoff chances.

We're the frickin' Islanders. Have you see our results the last 20 years? We once lost 20 games in a row to Washington. What team doesn't have at least one player that "kills us?"

Unless it was in an underground bunker it would be ON Long Island, not IN Long Island. Like, "here on Gilligan's Isle".

Sorry, pet peeve.

Seriously though, it's "on" LI rather than "in" LI because Long Island is a geographical feature rather than a political entity (not a municipality, etc.). Which means that the geographical "Islanders" can play IN the political entity of Brooklyn b/c Brooklyn is ON Long Island. Not to hijack the thread or anything.

Not that I can help you with your original question or anything....

And BUF just traded its Captain.

The reason? Snow has a history of not trading UFAs at the deadline even when out of playoff contention. Yeah, he moved Guerin in a botched move. But PAP? Konopka?

Moreover, I just don't see Wang green lighting salary additions that hit the books this year. If the Isles make the playoffs, then Wanger will be happy making some greenbacks on his lowest cost option roster believing his plan is working.

I cannot believe just how bad the return was for Gaborik...Sather is losing his fastball big time. He's always been awful for the Rags on draft day and on July 1st but trades have been his bread and butter...The deal he made with CBJ was one of the worst I've seen in quite some time.

Imagine dealing a guy like Gabby and not getting back one of the THREE 1st round picks they have in this years draft...that's just mind boggling.

Unlike the Isles, Buffalo is not in playoff contention. It's much easier to deal a team leader when you arent making a playoff push. Doesnt send a great message to the lockerroom when the guy with the C on his chest gets sent packing, for what would've been either more picks and prospects, which is the only thing the contending teams who'd have come calling for Streit would be offering.

No. Most of DiPietro's salary counts against the cap.

I'm actually really happy the Islanders stayed put.

That Gabby trade was brutal for the Rags.

By getting Jagr and Redden the Bruins really loaded up for a Cup run. Unfortunately, it's the 2003 Cup and not the 2013 Cup those guys would really help with.

The Nash trade backfired for NYR. The same guys shipped out to bring in Nash are the ones helping CLB make the playoffs. Now, they add Gaborik who just needs confidence and support from his coach.

Slather went big for Nash and fell flat. Now, Sather has to make a bunch of moves to offset that deal.

Looking at the trades that went down today, I'm very happy we didn't do anything.

Rangers got worse.
