The Rangers have a lot of young players who will push for the NHL I'm the next 2 years. Picks can be replaced.

I can understand the issue with the picks. But Clowe DEFINITELY improves this team, any way you cut it. The rangers just got much harder to play against. In the very least, the very least, callu won't be the only one banging bodies out there.

Clowe is an ~18:00/night guy. He's not some slouch like Rupp that can't skate, can't really fight anymore, but is "good in the room". He's not that type of guy. He's like Prust on 'roids with more skill. Trust me, he's going to be an impact player for this club.

After some mulling on this, I've decided I like the deal. Here's why in two very simple parts

1.) The value is extremely fair. The Rangers didn't overpay, the Sharks didn't get taken to the cleaners. This would seem to just mean I'm meh about the deal.

2.) Clowe is now a Ranger and the rest of it doesn't matter. One way or the other, he's an upgrade over what weve got on the 3rd line.

Like the picks, the young players aren't guarantees. I hate having no picks until the middle of the 3rd round in a draft that was considered the deepest since 2003.

Werek became Lindberg.

Sangs and Horak became Fast and Erixon.

Wolski helped get Clowe.

I think of him in a similar vein to Milan Lucic, although not quite as good.

They will be replaced at the end of the season. The Rangers have quite a few pieces they can move for picks. Boyle? Pyatt? Powe? Asham? Even if they return late picks it helps.

Before this year, I'd rate them as equals with what they bring to a team. Clowe has had the same year Gabs has had - opportunities but can't finish. Change of scenery is probably exactly what he needs.

Agree with you there. Gaborik too. I was arguing that earlier on. I'd love to at the very least have the Rangers select one player in the 2nd round this year.

Isn't that against the board rules?

Seriously, Sean Avery was a fan favorite. He was also a clown.

But I like it.
Of course whats not to like about the shiny new car? Have you driven it yet though?

Exactly my thoughts, as per usual.

I don't like that the Rangers gave up possibly two second round picks. That really sucks. Otherwise I'm okay with it.

I want this guy running through walls for the NYR. I want him pissing other teams off. I want him parked in front of the net on the PP. I want him sticking his stick out from the bench

He does all of those things, and maybe he breaks his slump, and he's worth it

Loved the first paragraph.

If Clowe refers to Brodeur as "Fatso" in his first interview, it'll shut this board down.

One 2nd round pick isnt consolation for missing the playoffs, especially when you had Cup aspirations.

I wouldn't even consider the trade as Sather "going big".

They still have three high 3rd rounders in a worst-case scenario.

I mean Clowe for at least 12 games and three picks between 60-75 is better than five picks with one in the 40s and four between 60-75.

Since when is the object to re-sign players? This team had the makings of a Cup contender before the season started, if Clowe helps wake up this team and we make the Finals, the deal is a success.

I can only hope Sather isn't done. Please find a "#2 center" before the deadline.

They give up another if they make the ECF or re-sign him. I only see them re-signing him if worth it. Rangers don't tend to re-sign their rentals.

I was hoping this was a late April Fools Day joke. They have lost their minds. This is stupid beyond belief. Bring in a beaten up, aging, offensively challenged player to a team that can't score. No draft choices in the first 2 rounds. The only way to semi justify this is if they win the Cup; which they're aren't doing this year.

As much as I don't like this trade, I just have this weird feeling he is going to score a big goal tomorrow. The guy definitely has some offensive talent.
