If boston gets more point than us, we're still 4th.
Behind a team that could be out of the playoff without the division leader rules.

I wish we could finish 4th, I don't want to have to go through Pittsburgh in the semi-finals and Boston in the conference (if we get there).

I guess if Crosby and Bergeron are out indefinitely, we could end up 1st or 2nd to finish the season!

What's the latest on the Kid?

Which means what? That they're statistically clear of us even considering games played?

Pittsburgh also have their two best Dmen out. Both are set to miss some time. Not sure about Letang, but Martin is supposed to miss 6 weeks.

We certainly could come 1st with another impressive streak, but at this point, my main wish is to stay ahead of Boston. Tonight was a bad night for that since Ottawa is a team that could have beaten them. Otherwise, they're cruising until Saturday. It's all in our hands so I hope we are focussed on winning the division. 1 is great, but 2 would be huge as well. As much as playing the leafs will be the series everyone has been waiting for (and that's what will happen if we're 4th, Ottawa will drop to 6th), it will be a tough first round. If they get Kipper, the leafs are just as much a good team as we are with their fire power back.

Keep in mind that Kipper has not been an NHL caliber goalie this year, he might be rejuvenated in a playoff race though.

Leafs in the playoffs? DO. NOT. WANT.

I've said it before, but as much as I'd love to bounce them out and hold that distinction over them, I don't think I could suffer defeat and the endless ragging we'd all have to endure until the end of time for it, and I'm more than willing to just not play them to prevent that possibility. Give me the usual Boston again any day over Toronto.

I feel exactly the way you do (as I alluded to in the post your quoted), possibly more due to a large contingent of my "friends" being Molson'67 fans and me living in the TO area for the past decade. They are, however making the playoffs and unless we can go on pulling magic out of our ass to win the division (Boston is just plain racking up points), we're 4th. They'll be 5th. Book it.

It's time for Chucky to end the rope a dope and just score at will. Too much teasing. That'll put us past them.

I might have been worried a bit if we were opening the series on the road in Toronto.
In Mtl, there's no way we'd lose.

If we finish first or second we wouldn't have to go through Pittsburgh until the finals.

They re seed so highest plays lowest after every round. Jesus how can people not know this yet post on a hockey forum

So you're suggesting that the reg. season trend (through 3 of 4 games) reverses?

As long as we are not playing against the NYI in the playoffs, im ok with whatever team, specially an overrated Pittsburgh team

The best possible spot is probably in 1st place this year. Especially considering the 6th team will have as good a chance to beat the 3rd one. Then you could look at a potential Mtl - 6th and Boston-Pitts semi-finals + us having the ice advantage against either.

I dont like looking too far comes playoffs time, there are no easy series imo but finishing 1st is definitly a favorable objective imo.

Throw salt over your left shoulder
Go outside, turn full circle 3 times and spit

There is ALWAYS the possibility of losing. Let's not start acting cocky. The reason the Habs win so much this year is because they know they can lose.

They just had 3 consecutives shutouts without Letang and also Martin got hurt and missed last night's game

Their defense isn't that bad but I agree nothing great and we can challenge them

I don't think any NHL team has ever gone from worst-to-first in their conference in the post-six team era.

Although many teams have vastly improved from one season to the next.

Some examples: the Edmonton Oilers had 74 points in 80-81 then bagged 111 the next season.

The Dallas Stars went from 66 points to 104 points in 96-97.

The Philadelphia Flyers went from 56 points in 2006-2007 to 95 points the next year.

The Habs had 78 points last year. Can anybody pro-rate their current record to full-season? I think I came up with about 116 points last time I tried.

Really?!! If the Habs finish 4th and get past the Leafs (ugh) they'd next face Pittsburgh and if they win they'd probably encounter Boston. If the Habs finish 1st or 2nd they'd have a much easier opponent in the 1st round. If they finish 2nd they'f face the #7 seed and might meet Winnipeg in the 2nd round.

Too many upsets in the first round to safely predict who we'll play when. As long as we secure home ice for the first round or two, I'll be happy.

As a Bruins fan I think you guys will win our division at least, maybe snag 1st in the conference if Pittsburgh falters. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems Montreal is clicking on more cylinders (if not all) and Boston hasn't. Should be a fun next 3 weeks in hockeyland!
