Also...the Habs should just do Yannick Weber a favor and trade him for future considerations

He's kept his mouth shut, been played out of position, played after sitting for weeks at a time.

Just let the guy try to get his career back on track...Habs already have Drewiskie, Bouillon, Kaberle and 3 other dmen in Hamilton (Pateryn, Tinordi and Beaulieu) they rather play ahead of Weber.

I think you can afford to let the guy go for basically nothing

I remember at the 2008 draft when RDS and CKAC went ******* that Maxime Sauve was not a Hab.

If they lose him after this year, it sucks. But if they keep him, it's fair enough. Proven roster players that play top 6/top 4 roles have a significantly high value in terms of futures because they're rare and getting one out of any pick that's not a first rounder is slim.

Hence, the massive overrating of picks by people on this board compared to actual GMs.
If we are talking about Clowe, you need to forget top 6, he simply isn't there this year. For whatever reason he is a shadow of himself this year and yes I agree that holds nothing for next year, he could rebound for all we know.

Well in case you didn't notice, this forum is called Hockey's Future and when I joined in 2003, most post were discussing prospects, and very few about the actual roster. As popularity picked up, it transformed into what you see today.

The habs are one year removed from being at the bottom of the league. I don't believe this year is a simple fluke, but I would prefer to remain cautious and continue to use the picks to make sure in the future we can stay competitive. The only team to win the Stanley Cup by improving there team significantly through trades was the LA Kings. And they gave up a lot of their young talent to do so. Lucky for them, they have a young core and it didn't hasn't hurt them, yet. Bringing in 1 or 2 rookies a year is important in a salary cap era. The need for a player to play above his cap hit is a new reality in the NHL.

I don't believe what you said of NHL GMs and draft picks, obviously they have importance if a team will trade it top players for a prospects and first round pick. Montreal has been doing great at drafting in almost every round, why would they trade away a pick that they can turn into a bonafide prospect that may garnish more attention than a number in a round.

Except the point isn't that picks are useless assets, it's that you don't get proven big role players for potential great value picks. It's just how it is. If people want to hold on to picks because you feel you're going to get great value, then go ahead. When it comes to actually managing a team, picks simply aren't as valuable.
