Jiri Tlusty - first career hat rick

He really has rejuvenated his career in Carolina after being considered pretty much a bust. Playing with Staal and Semin certainly doesn't hurt, but give credit where credit is due.

I actually proposed a Calgary deal for him early on in the season. Had a feeling about him breaking out this year. Great player and that top line has been scary and suprisingly durable.

I logged into yahoo with the intention of dropping him from my team and nearly crapped myself...

Absolutely killer last round pick on my hockey pool

I have a habit of taking young former leafs in my hockey pool, it pays off surprisingly well.

Great example of why you dont unload recent first picks if they are struggling early in their careers.

Can't believe we got this guy for Paradise! He's scoring at a great clip, but he also does all the little things well- forecheck, crashing the net, screening, defense, third man high, etc. He's the perfect compliment to E. Staal and Semin, and is a big reason why they are doing so well.

And it's really weird because outside of a decent shot and slightly above average skating, Tlusty doesn't seem to bring anything above average at the NHL level. But his hockey sense is off the charts.

Thanks Burke!

this is why you don't trade former first round picks

1) Post provocative pics of yourself on the Internet
2) Score hat trick a few years later

He has 17 goals now... He was good last year, now he's even better. What a find.

He has an incredibly quick release; playing with Semin and Staal, he just needs to find some open space and they'll likely find him.

Not really disappointed at all. But good for him getting a hat trick, I'm happy for him. Hope he does well in Carolina.

I didn't realize till just now that he vaulted into the top-10 in goal scoring. I mean, holy ****. Who saw that coming?

Tlusty is probably the hardest working player on the team. He's not a traditional power forward, but he plays like one. Almost all of those goals are a result of going to the dirty areas and making a heady play that his more talented linemates can exploit.

I'm real happy for him and the Leafs management. We didn't pick Giroux but a lot teams missed out on him...Tlusty just proves that the Leafs do draft well.

Good for him.

He wasn't traded because he was a bad player.

Plus the Leafs are loaded with forwards, 4th best scoring team in the NHL.

Tlusty wouldn't make our top six so I doubt anyone's losing sleep.
