does Raymond have five 60+ pts seasons? and 6 straight seasons of 20+ goals? He's also extremely durable which is important when you want to go deep in the playoffs.

I liked Torres but I remember that stretch in the regular season where he was basically invisible as well.

We don't need him on a team that I believe already has enough referee bias going against them AND the least respected superstars in the league.

We might as well pick up Kaleta and Cooke to go along with him, lol.

Honestly now that we ducked that Clowe bullet I hope we're done. Even later round picks are a waste when it comes to these rental guys. And I don't really see a 'hockey trade' happening - so let's just fold up the tent already. We got Roy for a decent price, and we need young guys to step up for cheap - that's the way of the cap world.
I'd still like Goc. $1.7m for this year and next so not a rental. Would cement centre depth for this year and make next year pretty solid too. Sedin-Kesler-Roy-Goc-Schroeder-Lapierre. That gives you option of 2 centres on a line and just mixing stuff around.

I understand but in the cap circumstances that we are in that would be an extra $1.7M for a guy who is basically a luxury.

How is Pominville a rental? He's signed for next year...

I covered that in the 'we do not need to overpay' part of the post.

In general the assets you can get now are mostly rentals - I meant I don't even want to give up late round picks for practically anyone save maybe a depth RHS D.

It sounds like he's commanding premium prospects, and 20 goals isn't really worth trading the future for in a league where you need young cheap guys to fill holes on your team every year.

A 4th line of Torres-Lapierre-Kassian would be hella scary

Okay but then you've basically just said you have no interest in the Canucks going far this season. Right now they don't get past the first round with the roster they have.

I assume we would be dealing Raymond and Luongo to other teams for picks/prospects if we dealt for Pominville. We really wouldn't lose that much asset wise.

I wouldn't say we dodged a bullet at all. I would say we lost out on a player who could have really helped us.

Being done and not adding to this team would essentially make the Roy trade a complete waste. This team still isn't good enough to go far in the playoffs. We need another quality offensive forward before we can possibly take that step.

I have a lot more faith in the roster than you do, that's cool. If we can make the coaching adjustments we need to, we have more than enough guys to make this work IMO.

Really, all that has to happen is for the defense to collectively get their thumbs out of their ***** and we'll be fine.

True but he's not getting prime PP time of O-zone starts here. I like that he puts up 40 ES points a year because most of his production here would come from ES, but Raymond puts up 30-35 himself. How big a net benefit are we gaining? If we are breaking the bank I'd rather chase a PP QB.

Well he'd replace someone so it's more like $500K-1m.

I don't even think Clowe (in his current state) is an improvement over what we have, so we would be throwing assets away. I think we are good enough for a run tbh, we just need some of our guys to step up (Hamhuis, Edler etc). Getting Roy and getting Kesler back is absolutely huge

My prediction is that we pick up a depth defender for dirt cheap tomorrow. Ideally I would like us to trade Lu for either a top 6 forward or a top 9 forward + futures package

I'd rather get Gordon and let him center Lappy and Weise.

Lappy IMO might be better on the wing. At least it would help our f/o %.

Cl0we

A completely healthy Clowe signed to a good deal is worth while. An offensive winger who wants $6m to resign and has scored 0 goals this year isn't. Look at him as a UFA.
