They're guaranteed either Mackinnon or Drouin. Makes no sense to me why they'd move it.

Tallon states in article that he won't drop below #4.

So that limits who can get the #2 pick

Huberdeau doesn't play center.

Tallon said he was willing to trade up or down a few spots, don't think he meant he would trade the pick away

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Colorado and Florida swap picks, FLA gets Mac, COL gets Jones and COL gets an extra asset in the trade.

How about Halak, Ryder & a 2nd? Or Bozak, Gunnarsson & a 2nd?

No reason for them to do this. Maybe they move down to 3 rd in Avs take Mack, other than that I see no reason to do this.

If Jones is already projected to go #1 then why would Florida do this?

No guarantee Avs take Jones.

To ensure the Avs don't trade out of that pick with someone else who wants Mackinnon is the only logical answer I can think of.

This would be the height of folly IMO. On the Stars board there is much discussion of how it is better to sit 2 or 3 and not have any pressure that comes with the top pick. Why give up an asset when either Mackinnon or Jones will be there at #2?

MacKinnon has taken the #1 spot from Jones in the ISS rankings. Jones going 1st isn't the consensus at all.

Florida should just say they will take Jones if he is available. Then Colorado will be forced to take Jones #1.

Jeff Skinner + Ryan Murphy

For 2nd overall

Florida still gets a top end forward for years to come and a very good D prospect to go along with it.

Carolina gets to draft 2/5 well also creating cap space.

If they draft MacKinnon then they may feel that waiting for him to get to a top C level will take a while and they can get one by trading the pick to someone.

Every team has their own rankings. Public rankings are just guidelines, at best.

Tallon won't trade the pick unless he's blown away, like any other GM. This is a non-story.
