Give this team a chance, dude.

As long as this team as Nicky and Ovi, IMO, there is always a chance.
Right on. I feel the exact same way except that I'd lump Green in there too.

What was your take going into the playoffs last year out of curiousity???

And down the stretch last year, I don't know if they looked any better than how they look right now.
Those guys were cold before the playoffs IINM, though. Seguin had that memorable goal in game 6. The D was good, though, outside of Wideman.

Caps may not have looked good down the stretch but they ended up doing better than the Bruins at least by some measures. It ended up being a much less lopsided matchup than it should have been, as I recall.

I expected this team to beat Boston and NYR last year mainly because nobody was giving them a chance after two years of being heavy favorites. However; I can't see this years team making it past the second round as is. We are a second line winger away from making a deep run in myopinipm. Would have been nice had McPhee kept Semin. I hate GMGM.

Last year's 8, 19 and 52.

This year's 8, 19 and 52.

I think this year's looks better, no? And if they were able to do some damage last year, they can potentially do the same this year as well.

Seriously, what team would look forward to facing a hot 8 and 19?

What we need right now more than anything is more consistency in goaltending and for the coaches the fix the god damned PK. Still enough time to do that.

I don't understand the "We lose Ribeiro for nothing" hand-wringing. We rented him for a year, at a great price ($5 mill + Cody Eakin).

There could not have been any expectation of him being here beyond this year - either he would underachieve and we wouldn't want him or he'd overachieve and his price would be too high. It's been the latter, which has been good for the team (and will be good for him), since he was our only offense for some period of time.

It makes no sense to trade him now since (i) we are in the hunt and (ii) we have no long-term investment in him. He has provided us precisely what we bought him for: a short-term replacement for Semin's offense and a 2nd line center. I frankly have grave doubts as to whether he can match this production going forward (smacks of a Nylander w/Jagr kind of year), and he does have shortcomings as an actual center, so if he wants more than a reasonable short-term deal going forward it's probably not with us.

But I still want his offense for the rest of this year. The rest of the SE sucks, and we should be able to win the division. And trading him would not yield an asset in return that would clearly address our longer-term needs - so I truly don't get why we want to shed him just as the team is starting to play well.

The team improved by just getting Green/Laich/MJ/Erskine etc back from injury and the emergence of guys like Oleksy.

Doesn't hurt that Ovechkin and Backstrom have locked in the radar again either.

Absolutely we can make a run with the team exactly as is barring significant injuries.

You're overestimating the defense.

That's about as relevant as how we felt before the Philly, Pitt and Montreal series.

This team is three great players surrounded by crap.

FWIW, I expect Ribeiro will be resigned. Don't know why, just a hunch.

Come on Nonis, you know you want a 2-time Calder Cup winning goalie. A 1st round pick is virtually nothing for that kind of track record.

So...Ribeiro, Brouwer, MJ, Holtby, Carlzner, Laich etc are crap?

Then why are you so high on trading Ribeiro? If he is crap he won't really get us much in return now will he?

May as well waive Alzner and Carlson too while we're at it....

Holmgren has officially lost it...

Mason is the new version of Jim Carey. Maybe there is a method to their madness?

Come on, man, your'e better than this. You know there's a massive difference between 20-something defensemen under the control of the organization for several more years and a pending UFA 33 year old center.

Actually I'm probably not! haha

If Brooklyn is gonna be all dramatic and say we have 3 great players + crap then I'll go along with his little game.
