Honourable family decision. You can never fault a man for putting his family first. Good on Kiprusoff.

Feel like Toronto dodged a bullet with Kipper. Hopefully they stay pat on the goalie front because that's not their issue.
The real bullet is Luongo. At least Kipper's contract would have been over in 1.5 years time.

Reimer isn't established himself as a legit #1 (imo) but I'd rather let him develop in the role, starting with a playoff round, or two, than add an aging tender to try and steal the spotlight. The Leafs shouldn't be in a win-now mode but preaching patience and development instead.

No chance the Flames decide they want him around next year?

If he's really that locked into the community, and would rather retire than leave, seems like a team on a downward trend could use him.

We still need to dodge another bullet. 3:00 PM and no Luongo on the Leafs would be awesome.

Only in the minds of Canucks fans and Gillis.

Even better, there is a tiny little x that you can click and make the thread disappear!

It's like magic.

But we can fault a man for deciding if he wants to retire or still play hockey (Sundin).

Toronto now knows the cost of a veteran goalie; when factoring in the horrible Luongo contract that Kipper didn't have, you can come to a target price for Luongo. That value is surely a lot lower than what Gillis has in mind. The grenade is still in Gillis' yard; the Leafs hold the pin.

It's hard to compare stats between the two goalies; as one plays for Vancouver, the other for Calgary.

.868 is Vesa Toskala level futility.

I usually don't evaluate a player based strictly on their stats, but that SV% shows that Kipper is playing TERRIBLE right now. Part of that is on the Flames, but not all of it.

This isn't a guy who is snake-bit or struggling a little bit. Part of that is the small sample size, but if you're looking at trading for a guy that is only going to be around for 12 games + P/O's, how they're playing right now matters.

Still hoping for a Ramo/Kipper duo next year with Ramo getting 70% of the starts.

Is the hype behind ramo for real? Is this kid the real deal?

He is is the best goalie in the KHL...and hes only 26. He carried his team on his back into the playoffs.

So, is there a chance he could be a good NHL goalie? Yep.

There is also the possibility that he doesn't translate to the NHL, like Monster. All in all, I think he is worth a shot.

Kiprusoff's impact to help the Flame to get a better draft pick is greater than any asset they could trade him for.

I heard yesterday that Luongo's contract is so bad they've now actually identified it as the cause of global warming

Thank God. Now we can move on to Patrick Roy or Johhny Bower.

With Kipper off the table, I hope the Leafs just stick with Reimer/Scrivens.

Good for Kipper and his family, he had a great career. Eyes now on Luongo & Bishop.

And you know this how? This will be Kipper's 9th season with the Flames. How can you completely dismiss that part of the reason why he stayed is because of the Calgary organization? I know I wouldn't stay somewhere for a decade if I didn't like it there.

No one ever wants to leave Calgary, unless they're 35 and been there their whole life and need to win a Cup. Besides that though, no one ever wants to leave Calgary. That's just the way she goes.
