Check out James Mirtle's blog today in the Globe. Acquiring a high priced goalie like Kiprusoff or Luongo would destroy any cap flexibility the Leafs would have this summer.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...medium=twitter

The sensible thing is to get a veteran third stringer with an expiring contract to have around as injury insurance.

If Reimer gets hurt, you go with Scrivens. Why is there so much angst about that scenario? It happened earlier in the season and the team did not go off the rails.

I'd do that in a heart beat. Though I'm a huge Reimer fan, I dunno that's a tough one.

#FlaPanthers not practicing today including Tomas Kopecky and Marcel Goc. We'll wait and see what happens.

No way we get Luongo, I wouldn't worry about it.

Kipper made a bit of sense because he would only be here short term, maybe 2-3 years tops. That's not the case with Luongo. There's not exactly pressure for us to win the cup this year. We could just sign a vet in the offseason.

Sure thing!
Who is last 2 backup goalies to step in for a injured starter to win a cup? Go ahead, I'll wait.

Scrivens whether people want to accept it or not has been a very credible backup to Reimer this season. Veteran leadership is one thing, acquiring another goalie because you're banking on Reimer getting hurt is just silly.

You know, I really dont know what it is, but even SV% being the same Reimer has this amazing ability to win games. I think he simply rises to occasion when we need him. Nonis would be dumb to trow it away and pay any assets to 7uongo.

im not sure why people are upset we were not able to acquire kipper as a backup goalie..his price would have been extremely cheap given that calgary will get nothing for him after their tank season is over with

We want to throw guys like Reimer under a bus to acquire someone like Luongo and that stupid contract!!!

We like to trade our futures for complete failures all the time.

not banking it, insurance. however, Nonis has said over and over he is happy with the 2 he has. guess we'll see if he was telling the truth

I can name one. Chris Osgood took over for Domink Hasek and Detroit went on to win the Cup in 2008.

If I'm not mistaken Bryzgalov played some games early in the playoffs for Anaheim during their Cup run. But by the Finals he was on the bench.

The Leaf pecking order for Goal Tenders, is Reimer, Scrivens and then MacIntyre, if he passes through waivers and he should

Brilliant news on the Kipper front! Maybe go for a nice vet d, but if we do nothing that's fantastic in my opinion.

If Leafs are getting Luongo and that butt ugly contract, then I'd force them into taking JM Liles in exchange will help offset the cap for the next few years.

As per reports, Florida Panthers, Tomas Kopecky and Fillip Kuba and Goc aren't at practice today.

Really? Scrivens, statistically, is a middle of the pack backup for playoff teams based on what I looked at. Is having an upgrade for a backup really worth giving up valuable assets, and more importantly, 5.5 million in cap for the next flipping decade?

Might be fine for this year, and even next year (which is why I wasn't against Kipper). But after that having that kind of money tied up in a backup spot (assuming Reimer is the #1) will screw us over just like it could the Canucks.

Basically it's only a deal you make if you're sure that Reims isn't the answer and you're sure Luongo is going to be that guy until he's in his 40's.

Pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, and pass. Please pass!

We're a young team. Lets ride the kids we have and lets see what they do in the playoffs. You never know what could happen. Maybe after we get knocked out, we realize that goal is the least of our concerns (in fact I'm betting this is what happens).

Because of being a Provincial and most importantly a Div rival the cost to the Leafs would be higher than most other teams as a Ottawa asking price as a result.

0 playoff experience, which I'm pretty sure is what concerns Nonis the most about our goalies.

Khabibulin probably makes the most sense right now
