John Gibson

Lots of Sabres fans have suggested Ryan Miller to Anaheim for Hiller+

I'm more interested in John Gibson. What is his value?

To ANA:

Ryan Miller

To BUF:

John Gibson

We already have Hackett. Not sure why we'd be interested in another goalie prospect. Plus, if we're trading Miller to Anaheim and Hiller isn't coming back, who starts for us? It won't be Hackett or Enroth.

Omg... Ducks don't need miller. Yes he's better than what we have, but not enough to justify cost. We are fine in goal.

Gibson is replacement for Hiller and Fasth in about 3 or 4 years. He's not going anywhere.

Debatable. But yes, there's absolutely zero chance that Miller is dealt to Anaheim.

A prospect with similar potential although goalie potential is hard to gauge as alot of goalies look good at a young age

Miller is better than Fasth and Hiller, although only slightly when Hiller is on. However Anaheim's goalie is pretty set for now.

Ducks will keep both next year. If Hiller outperforms Fasth next season, Fasth will be moved, if not Hiller leaves FA and we have Fasth in another year. By that time we'll have a better idea on how Anderson and Gibson are doing.

If it was Miller for Gibson + 2013 1st+ another prospect.

After Enroth Buffalo has 2 other young goalies. Hackett currently playing at the AHL level and MaKarov who plays in the WHL but will play in the AHL next year being 20 yrs old.

Buffalo could go with Hackett and Enroth next year.

the issue then comes onto Anaheim where they would have 3 NHL level goalies with both Miller and Hiller on one yr left on the contract.

The other possibility would be something like a 3 team deal where anaheim send Hiller elsewhere and then Gibson to Buffalo then they get something back for Hiller and some of those pieces could come back to Buffalo.

even if Anaheim doesnt trade for Miller and he is a pure rental on a team next season Anaheim will be seriously looking at Miller and letting Hiller walk. they know they could sign Miller at a below market cost.

I don't even know why this idea keeps coming up. If there's one move that would make less than zero sense for Anaheim, it would be to acquire an expensive goaltender. The Ducks have Hiller for one more year at $4.5MM, Fasth for two more at $2.8MM, and two blue chip goalie prospects in Anderson and Gibson. Someone please explain to me why trading for Miller makes any sense at all for the Ducks.

Yeah, I didn't really think about the need for Miller if Anaheim still has Hiller/Fasth on the roster. Acquiring Miller would make Hiller expendable to trade for other assets, however.

So if not Ryan Miller, then who from Buffalo would be enough value for Gibson?

I agree with this.

Goalie prospects are so hard to judge because so many look great when young but then can never make the jump to the NHL. A very high number of starting goalies weren't drafted in the first round, teams are best served just drafting and developing their own in my opinion, you never know who has the stuff to make it. That I think is why we see many more young goalies traded, who have played in the NHL a bit already (Bobrovsky, Mason, Bishop etc) but rarely see the goalie prospects move teams.

We'll just hold onto Gibson and our current goalies.

this is tough because the ducks are seeing him as a future #1 (but he is a goalie and has a long road to get there)....BUT, just because the ducks view him as there future #1 (if all goes to plan) doesnt equal to a team paying that high for him....which means ducks are better off keeping him (are better off gambling he will be what they hope) then whatever return they can get for him

Anaheim has Hiller and Fasth. Acquiring Miller would require the Ducks to move Gibson and other assets. That is a pretty ridiculous waste of assets from Anaheim.

At NHL level it looks like it breaks down like this:

-Hiller and Fasth finish this season.

-Both Hiller and Fasth will be here to start next season. If one is greatly performing the other by the deadline, one may possibly be moved, although unlikely IMO.

-that offseason it will be decision time for Murray. Hiller will be a FA, and Fasth will be making starter money for that last season. So I definitely don't expect both Fasth and Hiller to be here at the beginning of that next season. This is when a young goalie could possibly step up and be back up, although right now now, Andersen would be more likely to get the chance. This is earliest chance for Gibson, but it will probably be 3 or 4 years at least.

I may get flamed by my Orange & Black brethren but howz about:

To Ana: Couturier
To Phi: Gibson + Sbisa

I don't think the Holmgren would do this, but I think it's interesting.

Ducks might consider it, especially with how bad Sbisa has been this season.
