No one is posting any logical reasons though, just platitudes. I don't want him on the ice, ever, no matter what happens. I don't care if half the defense goes down, we are done at that point anyway, Hannan isn't going to help.
I don't really care about the pick, I just cannot fathom how anyone thinks this is good.
DW just traded two players in Murray and Clowe that were very popular in the locker room and well liked by the rest of the team. He's traded three players in the past week without adding anyone outside of calling Matt up from Wor. Hannan is well liked and respected by a lot of guys in the room (Jumbo, Patty, Stewart, Pickles). Dw is just trying to keep the chemistry going while showing to the team that he believes in the players we already have and that he thinks they can make a run in the playoffs. But he also couldn't subtract three players, he had to show belief by adding. Even if it's a worthless, old d man.
I'm sure that Dw offered a 7th for Shea Weber but ended up with Hannan.
I'll try. If our D is getting handled in the PO's maybe Hannan as a 7th can clear the crease.
Thats all I've got.
He's too small to clear the crease. Hannan's best attribute was always his stickwork, positioning, and fearlessness. He's a lot like Murray in that he'll throw his corpse in front of just about any shot. Also like Murray his skating has deteriorated so badly that he can barely get from place to place on the ice, so his positioning suffers badly since he cannot keep up with who he is defending and stay in position. Unlike Murray, he's soft as butter and cannot rely on his hitting and intimidation to have an impact on his game.

Still LOL omfg Scott Hannan!!! Dude basically interferes as his defensive style. He'll be in the box a lot. He is not a post-lockout D-man but it is insurance and yes a SLIGHT upgrade to Murray without the awesome viking hitting power.
Oh and all these Korky posts are making me too nostalgic. I've missed that guy for ages
So now (including Tennyson), we have 8 defenseman again to make the push for the playoffs. Hannan (although at first I was like NOOOOOOOO!!!) came super cheap and will add a spare defenseman for the left side.
With expectations already thrown out on this season, I'd say Dwil24 is still doing a good job at this TDL for the short and long term needs of the team.
I was pretty shocked about this but since Demers is out its understandable. Hannan will definitely provide some leadership to our fairly young defense core and aside from Stuart, Vlasic, Boyle and Burns the rest of them don't have a whole lot of experience in the playoffs. Irwin is yet to play a playoff game and Braun has only played 6 games, so I think he's there to tighten things up and be a stay at home d-man and provide leadership there. Besides I'm kinda happy that he'll be reunited with Stuart although since they're both big and kinda slow I'm not sure how much we'll see them together if at all. I think this is a pretty good description of his style of play:
