Why couldn't DW just have picked up Barker or Montador on waivers?

Just pretend he was already here and we picked up a great forward in Burns.

Or this? I feel like this isn't such a bad pickup...maybe I'm giving it too much sentimental value.

Well. Hannan was the only sharks d-man ever to excel at the "playoff mugging" style of defense

Let's get Ragnarsson and Rathje out of retirement and make it a 2000 Sharks Defense Reunion!

Any rumor if DW is still going after a forward? I really hope he is.

Good trade. You can't get much cheaper than a conditional 7th.
Realize that he's only going to see ice time if TWO of our dressed 6 defensemen get injured because Tennyson is likely higher on the depth chart. Even then they might just convert Burns back to D instead of using Hannan if that happens.

It's always good to have a contingency plan in a worst-case scenario, and it came super cheap so why are people angry again?

Because he's worthless and we don't need him and have better choices no matter how many defensemen get injured.

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks 1m McLellan on #SJSharks adding Hannan: "We have that insurance policy on the back end now." Also noted Hannan's "banged up" and needs to heal.

What is this? I wanted a forward, not a defenseman. **** it, get Ricci back and put him as 4th line center.

All we did was get a crapload of picks and Hannan!? No forward depth!? Wtf DW!? Sure we got good value out of these trades but man get some forward depth!

i think dwil is starting to look at his roster and see that it is too old. he is clearing cap space for the future. He is going to hang on to marleau, thornton, boyle, etc until their contracts expire or if they can get trade value the year before they become UFAs. Sharks are "resetting" (aka rebuilding). these moves will not give us a long playoff run this year. it could prove fruitful next year if DWil utilizes his newly acquired assets correctly
