We will need his size against LA and Anaheim, so that's good news.

Tambo can sure make a blockbuster deal.

That being said, most of his tiny trades actually work out pretty well, so cool.

Smithson is an offensive black hole...even worse than Belanger.

He is no better on the draw than Belanger and no better defensively and not as good a skater.

The only upside I can see in this player is that he is a big body which this team really needs.

The thing that becomes clear is that the team clearly feels that Lander is not a 4th line NHL option at this point.

He might be ok with it. He's from Vernon, so he'll be a lot closer to home now. I'm sure his family is very happy with it.

Ha....hey I am not the biggest Belanger supporter but the only attribute that Smithson brings that Belanger doesn't is size.

This is a puzzling move IMO simply because a player like Lander is about as close to NHL ready as he is going to get.

It appears to be a waste of a 4th round draft pick.

Does the CAR trade mean the Canes have given up for the year, or were they looking to move him anyway?

He was waived earlier in the year.

When he outgrew his effectiveness the Predators dealt him to the Panthers for a 6th round pick. Tambellini just made a trade just to say he made a trade.

@EdmontonOilers: "Smithson will add to our defensive structure. He's a 53/54% faceoff guy who brings size and depth into our group." - Coach Krueger
@EdmontonOilers: "It's a soft tissue injury. That he had two relapses tells us that it could be longer term." - Krueger on Belanger

Character guy who's a big body who is a good Center. Depth.

Now try and move Peckham for a 4th, or atleast salvage a pick.

hooboy.

Anybody aware of my passionate dislike of the Nashville Preds has heard me ***** and moan about players like Smithson. Couldn't stand him with Nashville. But moreso that he was part of a collective venus flytrap that stuck to everything and spewed oozing slime all over hockey until nothing at all moved.

That said he's a large frame, can bang, be annoying, for some reason be the guy thats easy to hate, and for all those reasons and more is probably a good addition.

This is a just add water, have better than available 4th line option. Belanger looks gone.

good move. Smithson will actually compete and play like he likes being here.

Oilers are better with Smithson than Belanger.

The question needs to be asked....is giving up a 4th and acquiring Smithson a better option than giving those minutes to Lander?

The team obviously thinks it is a better option and I think thats worthy of scrutiny.

I don't know if this trade means that the Oilers think that Lander is a few years away... I just think that Tambo made a trade just to say that he made a trade. A 4th rounder for a past his prime player like Smithson... pointless.

Can't be a worse option than Smyth/Belanger.

If it's a nagging injury I doubt they'll be any takers on Belanger.
