Congratulations Disney, you just pissed off a healthy amount of Star Wars and gaming fans.

EDIT: Is 1313 scrapped entirely or on the shelf? They could easily license it out to an outside company.

Disney Closes LucasArts, will work with other studios to hand out licensed products

"After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games.
RIP in peace LucasArts. You were great at one time and then were subjected to making terrible games like Star Wars Kinect.

I like Disney's approach here though. Imagine Star Wars games made by some of the best AAA devs.

Smart move by Disney. It's really what they do best. If some of the top companies in the industry wanna make a Star Wars game now, they just gotta pay for it.

Sounds like it'd be on the shelf. If someone wants to finish it, they could probably negotiate for it.

1313 looked like it might be decent, but Lucasarts have pretty much sucked since their glory days in the 90s.

Disney has been canceling things that would conflict with the new Star Wars. They cancelled the Clone Wars and they cancelled Detours before it even aired.

Although Clone Wars will get to wind up its run elsewhere, a less fortunate fate awaits Detours, the comedy series co-created by the Robot Chicken team of Seth Green, Matthew Senreich and Todd Grimes. Originally announced last year, Lucasfilm today said that the series was postponed until a later date. The show was, Lucasfilm explained, “conceived and produced before we decided to move forward with the new Star Wars trilogy, and in the wake of that decision, Lucasfilm has reconsidered whether launching an animated comedy prior to the launch of Episode VII makes sense.”

That timeline doesn’t exactly hold with other statements from Lucasfilm officials in the past, both on the record and off. George Lucas himself recently let slip that plans for the new movie were in motion before the Disney deal, which began in June of last year, two months before the convention at which Detours was actually announced.

More likely, the new powers that be at Lucasfilm simply reconsidered whether or not a show that made fun of the franchise through in-jokes and Easter eggs and appealed more to the existing fanbase was the best product to launch at a time when everyone is waiting so eagerly for the new movies. And, really, who can blame them?

The news of the cancellations has caused upset online, with some Star Wars fans wondering whether there will be similar changes at LucasArts, the games division of Lucasfilm, which is currently working on an upcoming action-adventure game called Star Wars 1313 — a game the company has declined to discuss for months now.

And that was Raven Software, so they didn't even make that. Just published.

And then Activision ate them up... Still, even with publishing, it was a good decision and a great game for LucasArts.

This is fantastic news. Now they can license out the Star Wars universe to developers that actually make good video games.

Yeah, I don't think this news is really bad. As long as Disney continues to license out SW games (which they will) then there shouldn't be an issue. It's not like LucasArts was putting out blockbuster games. Most of their best games were made in collaboration with another developer anyway.

The only negative is the people who lost their jobs. Hopefully they can find work elsewhere.

That said, the fear is that Disney will shy away from games. Disney's focus for gaming is more phone based, so full blown console/pc gaming isn't that big on their radar. Hopefully they still see the demand for star wars games and decide to continue to have companies make them. I know lots of people want a true KOTOR 3 and many others, so the demand is out there if Disney wants.
