Forsberg and Kuznetsov available all season ?

Garrioch says Forsberg and Kuznetsov have been available all season, shopped by a desperate McPhee.
http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/04/06/...speration-mode
George McPhee, Washington: Trying to save his butt, he dealt Filip Forsberg to the Predators for Martin Erat. The Caps might squeeze into a playoff spot, but Forsberg and Russian prospect Evgeny Kuznetsov have been available all season.

Chicago should have pumped on that, but I'm not sure who Chicago would have had to give up.

Ugh. I would have moved a number of players to get either of them.

Man, I would have loved to see Sather send Gaborik to Washington for Kuznetsov. Talk about a guy who is going to tear it up when he gets here.

Also, I'm surprised Washington couldn't get more for Forsberg than Erat. No offense to Pred fans.

This headline is too easy, writes itself. I don't put an ounce of veracity in what Garrioch has to say.

I don't take anything Garrioch says at face value. Like Cox, he likes to stir **** up

It's Garrioch. He has sources within the Sens organization, but that's it. I've never seen someone pump up their own column so much. "The best Sunday column in the country"

Kuznetsov is not going anywhere

But, I definitely understand the reasoning for trading forsberg for a top 6 player

Why didnt they just re-sign Semin then?

Just poor asset management.

None taken. What you fail to realize is Erat has been playing in a right-wing lock system that does't allow him to play offense. Had he been in Washington's offensive system he would have had 80 points last year.

He is also not a playoff rental, he has 2 more seasons on his deal. I am guessing the Predators didn't want to give the impression they giving up on this season(they still had an outside shot of making the playoffs when the trade happened) so they needed a sweet offer to give Erat up. If they let it be known hey we giving up Erat, I don't think they would have got as much

Make perfect sense now. The preds were gonna trade Erat for less, but didn't wanna look like they were throwing in the towel. So McPhee said how about I overpay? And everybody was happy.

I would easily trade quite a bit for Kuznetsov. Forsberg, not so much.

He pumps up his column the same way he pumps up himself.

I just dont understand how you trade away your 11th overall pick less then a year after drafting him. ESPECIALLY for Erat.

Zero chance Kuz is traded. He'll be here next April.

It looks like a desperate GM trying to save his skin, but somebody above him must have okayed the move. If Kuznetsov and Forsberg were available all season, I'm surprised there wasn't a better offer for Forsberg than what Washington settled for.

Wouldn't be able to afford both Ribeiro and Semin. It's possible to afford both Ribeiro and Erat. Sometimes you have to take a step back at certain positions in order to make the salary cap work at other positions.

Calling Erat average is highly misinformed. The guy is an all around talent with great control of the game. He works his tail off and has been consistently one of Nashville's only offensive threats the past couple of seasons.

Semin is obviously a better offensive player and has a higher offensive ceiling each season but Erat brings everything Semin doesn't. Also cost certainty for 2 more seasons doesn't hurt.

I liked Forsberg going into the draft, but seeing him slip so far has to make me think NHL scouts who monitor this player far more closer than I, know something.

Also, I don't think Forsberg was dealt without being presented to all teams as an available chip in a trade.

All that being said, Erat is grossly underrated around these parts.
